Thank you David for your offer. This truly is a wonderful book.
I have somewhat neglected this forum for a little while, but hopefully I can spend a little more time with it for now. Hope to have your thoughts as we go along.
God bless,
Beryl

Thanks Beryl My favorite chapter is chapter two because it contains a simple gospel message that almost anyone can grasp. The title I have given this chapter is "The Simple Gospel Of Jesus Christ." It is a good chapter to share with people new to the Bible; or struggling with doubts; although, the chapter "What To Do With Doubt" is also good for this too. SC.021.002 The heart of God yearns over His earthly children with a love stronger than death. In giving up His Son, He has poured out to us all heaven in one gift. The Saviour's life and death and intercession, the ministry of angels, the pleading of the Spirit, the Father working above and through all, the unceasing interest of heavenly beings,--all are enlisted in behalf of man's redemption.
SC.021.003 Oh, let us contemplate the amazing sacrifice that has been made for us! Let us try to appreciate the labor and energy that Heaven is expending to reclaim the lost, and bring them back to the Father's house. Motives stronger, and agencies more powerful, could never be brought into operation; the exceeding rewards for right-doing, the enjoyment of heaven, the society of the angels, the communion and love of God and His Son, the elevation and extension of all our powers throughout eternal ages--are these not mighty incentives and encouragements to urge us to give the heart's loving service to our Creator and Redeemer?
SC.021.004 And, on the other hand, the judgments of God pronounced against sin, the inevitable retribution, the degradation of our character, and the final destruction, are presented in God's word to warn us against the service of Satan.

SC.080.003 The only way to grow in grace is to be disinterestedly doing the very work which Christ has enjoined upon us--to engage, to the extent of our ability, in helping and blessing those who need the help we can give them. Strength comes by exercise; activity is the very condition of life. Those who endeavor to maintain Christian life by passively accepting the blessings that come through the means of grace, and doing nothing for Christ, are simply trying to live by eating without working. And in the spiritual as in the natural world, this always results in degeneration and decay. A man who would refuse to exercise his limbs would soon lose all power to use them. Thus the Christian who will not exercise his God-given powers not only fails to grow up into Christ, but he loses the strength that he already had. Thanks to David and his on-line copy of "Steps to Christ", I have been able to copy and paste this quote without having to retype it all! Thanks, David. To locate this on-line copy, just go back to David's post -- "Steps to Christ - Link". There are several interesting words and phrases in this quote:- "disinterestedly" -- Not to expect any reward. To help without even expecting a "Thank you" -- and certainly not expecting them to become a church member! Helping them simply because you care! "to the extent of our ability" -- we all have different abilities. I would be useless helping someone change a tyre, but I am quite capable of cooking them a meal! So, I should use my God-given ability to make the nicest meal that I can, with due regards to the person's likes, the cooking facilities, and the money available for the ingredients. What are your natural abilities, and how can you use them to make friends for Jesus? God bless, Beryl

Have you seen or read the simplified edition called, Steps To Jesus? I have found that it is far easier for young people to read, so that's the edition I usually give out now. I distribute it to the kids at my work and also give it to interested staff.

Hi, John, good that you have visited the "Steps to Christ" thread. If you go in to where we are now studying --"A Knowledge of God", Chapter 10, you will see that we are now using that simplified edition.
See you there!

I am back!! This has been a long break -- "working holiday"??
I have had a wonderful time.
Good to welcome you, June.
We will be continuing with the chapter "The Privilege of Prayer", so if you go to the Forum list, and click on "The Privilege of Prayer", you will find me there.
Either that, or go to "Active Topics", where shortly you will find my post from that chapter.
God bless,
Beryl

Steps to Christ is a wonderful book, it teaches righteousness by faith. It was written just after 1888, it is Ellen White's answer to righteousness by faith except she puts it much clearer and better.

I have really appreciated Jones and Waggoners articles regarding Righteousness by Faith also.
I guess I see it more as different approaches to the same subject.
