The same word, diakonos, is used in 1 Cor. 3: 5; 1 Tim. 4: 6; Eph. 3: 7 and 1 Thess. 3: 2.

I compared 66 translations of Romans 16: 1 of the word diakonos and found the following:

1) 25 read "servant". These include Geneva Bible; KJV, NKJV, ASV, NASB, NIV, Weymouth, Concordant Literal Translation, King James II (Green), Christian Standard Bible, and English Standard Version; Bible in Basic English; Diaglott; Ferrar Fenton; Good News Bible; Andy Gaus; William Barclay; Laubach; A.S. Worrell; Simple English; New International Readers Version.

2) 23 read "deacon"/ "deaconess." These include New Berkeley, Christian Community Bible (Catholic); RSV; NRSV; The New Translation; Charles B. Williams; Cassirer's God's New Covenant; New Living Bible; Jerusalem and New Jerusalem Bible (Catholic) ; God's Word; Confraternity (Catholic); Phillips; Kenneth S. Wuest; Moffatt; Amplified; Lamsa; Steven T. Byington.

3) 7 have "minister": Among which are: New Testament, St. Paul's Catholic Edition; New American Bible (Catholic); Darby; Rotherham's Emphasized Bible; New World Translation (Jehovah's Witnesses).

It should be noted that the word "minister" here does not necessarily signify serving as the pastor of the church. It can simply mean, as the Confraternity version has it, "in the ministry of the church." Or as Conybeare reads, "ministering servant."

4) 7 have "a helper," etc.: Twenty-first Century; New Life; New Century Version; Goodspeed; English Version for the Deaf; William F. Beck; Living Bible.
