It's the word of the day, English Version, for today. specious = adj. having only the appearence of being good, real, logical, etc. but not the reality.
Just wondering. Have you used it lately? Why not keep your eyes and/or ears open for an opportunity?
While looking for quotations last night I found several amusing usages. Malapropisms. One hotel wrote that they had large "specious" rooms!
Please share with us your thoughts about this word.
Try using the word in your posts. Spelling is easy: it ends in IOUS (i owe U.S.) which should be easy to remmenber if you haven't forgotten about Income tax! How much? If less than $1,000 leave the K off "speck" - you owe just a "spec."
spec + ious is that specious spelling? Not, it's correct, genuine, the real thing!

In the law, specious is used frequently.
As in "That is a specious defense, having no basis in fact."

- "Hmmm, there is something specious about these footprints, Watson," said inspector Holmes, knocking out his pipe upon his boot heel.
- "Yes, it looks like we've been going in circles, again, Inspector Holmes!" -Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Case of the Specious Attribution, (unpublished as of 2008)

This word does not apply to you, Amelia, because there is no false-ness in you..... In the cyber world, there should be a lot of specious things...I wonder where virtual and specious would find a lot of useage....
