That is true. I was referring to the "days" issue but didn't make that clear.

I'm sorry Shane if I took your reference to the ten commandments wrongly. I was thinking of how in the Genesis account "heaven" means the sky where the birds fly and not the universe where the stars are. The commandment then does not mean more than that

When God made the atmosphere He named it heaven.

Is that not what is meant in the fourth commandment? I think it is fair to assume that the immense water canopy was not dissipated so that the sun and moon and stars could be seen until day four. If the earth existed any lenth of time without the sun the watery surface would have been solid ice.

Now it is argued that God can do anything. Perhaps He can do anything except foolish things. Reason says that He made our solar system as a unit. Bible beginnings are not about that.

As far as time is concerned I know some folks think that the 10 C's are universal in the universe. Do we need to believe that heaven and all other inhabited places live on our time and all keep sabbath together? All of the planets in our system have different length days and years. I'm quite willing to wait for the answers but why do we get so worked up trying to insist that Genesis one and two must be understood literally (whatever that means)?

If we believe the sun was not created until day four than water was created prior to the sun. There we have a frozen planet. I find it more reasonable to believe the sun was created before creation week but assigned its role during creation week. Reasonable people can disagree about that.

I believe the principles of the Ten Commandments is universal. Time may actually travel at different speeds in different places in the universe. It is possible that the entire universe was created recently in our time but has aged faster than the earth has. That is a hard one to grasp and not a belief I embrace personally.

I don't get it, why would it matter seventh or seven?

We can use algebraic formulas to answer that question.

1/7 = 0.1428571

or

7/1 = 7.0000000

We honor the seventh day because God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. That is according to what He wrote, with His finger, on tablets of stone. So in that context it doesn't matter if we are using ordinal or cardinal numbers. Our name has an ordinal number because God created using cardinal numbers. On day 7 God rested and thus on the 7th day we rest.
