As soon as you start saying "'he also made the stars' doesn't mean he made them then" you're already layering interpretation on what the text says to a casual lay reader.

If one is reading an English version this is true. The original language allows for another reading.

Bravus:

I always appreciate your comments.

Just to be clear: My brief post was not intended to represent my complete thought on the matter. Therefore, I would revise your comment to say: Greg has oposted part of the picture on the time scale. But, as he knows, it is more complicated than that.

Fair point, definitely. If you posted everything you know on the topic in every post, we'd never get out of here. bwink

That is merely an easily-made statement. How is anyone to know if it is true? Not to imply anyone to be a liar - but we all can be mistaken, at times. Even me :)

What was created on the fourth day of creation week?

Quote:
The phrase, "he made the stars also" does not require that God created the stars ex nihilo on the fourth day of creation. Some creationists have held that the entire universe, or at least the visible portion, was created on the fourth day. The text permits this reading, but does not require it. "The stars also" is merely a parenthetical phrase in which God is identified as the creator of the stars without identifying when this was accomplished. The text appears to permit the interpretation that the stars were already in existence, perhaps with planets inhabited by other created intelligences.

How did Moses come by the material he wrote in Genesis one? Was he given it verbatim by an angel perhaps or was it shown him in a dream or a vision. Possibly he was sitting watching sheep and meditating on how it all began and God showed him a video and he wrote as it appeared to him. Maybe it took three days for the atmosphere to clear enough for the heavenly bodies to be seen.

That's interesting to think about, but we simply don't know the answers to your questions, and there is no way of knowing for sure. It is even possible that Moses used writings by someone such as Noah, who could in turn have got the information from Methuselah. Methuselah talked with Adam and died either the year of the flood or 1 year before it. Almost certainly God gave Moses visions also. There is no reason to believe God worked with Moses in that sense much differently from the way He worked with Ellen White. She received visions, and then the Holy Spirit helped her in the writing and even in the selection of writings by other people. Likely it was similar with Moses. But again, it is all conjecture, and we will never know for certain until we get to heaven and can ask the writers themselves-- that is, if it still seems important to us at that time.

Because of the different styles of writing in the book of Genesis some scholars believe Moses compile the book from previous books that had already been written.

One thing we are certain of. We know Who wrote the Ten Commandments and the creation account in it is very clear.

That's if you know exactly what is meant by "heaven".
