I, for one, am appalled at the entire idea of publishing a book or website focused on this topic. I find it every bit as offensive as I do off-color jokes. (Need I go into that again, or are you all tired of hearing it?)

I don't see how pointing out or even laughing at our differences is a big deal. They are taking some observations and bringing them to light. So what? I've never heard of this book or blog, but it looks like the type of thing I hear as I interact in a multicultural environment on a daily basis. I don't see it as degrading or harmful. If anything, it is making fun of white people.

LOL - I don't like coffee, either, but you have to admit it's the stereotypical white person who can't start their day w/o it or who sits around Starbucks. Of course, that's the American whites; if you go to Europe, it's not that way.

Though it is very acceptable and common for the right kind of white people to dress and act as though they were Japanese, Chinese, or European, it is completely unacceptable for them to act like rappers. -stuffwhitepeoplelike hoo dwana doowaht? mm noh wrappa!

I wonder if they are referring to native dress? Because in China for example, there are possibly hundreds of different native styles. One doesn't just dress as a Chinese because there is no one "look". Unless we speak of the "Mao" look of the cold war era.

Now one thing I see white Americans do alot is emulate the styles of other cultures. But it's not just in dress. They will do this in decorating their homes too. I have said this in other threads before. White Americans have a bland culture. And when that is set side by side with other more colorful cultures, it can leave something to be desired. Some are just not content to be bland.LOL

We can't let those wrappers tell what to wear! Next thing they'll be making us ride at the back of the bus. :) Guess what the fall fashions may bring for women: It's time to kiss Irwin Shaw's girls in their summer dresses goodbye. Skin is out of fashion. Long sleeve white shirts buttoned so high and tight that they may cause strangulation are in. So are skirts that barely show half a calf and pants with bottoms wide enough for a child to hide in.
The look being pushed is Amish with a glamorous twist. Let's call it Glamish. What sounds like an oxymoron has been declared not so by influential designers. Now that I like. Give me one of those any day. It would make a nice accessory for a lady. Matching shoes, purse and whip! The whip could be useful in certain situations - like making your way to the front of the line, defending oneself from stray dogs, killing horseflies, etc. How would you find it most useful, Liz? /dAb

Why do you think some people perceive the blog as racist?
Mostly because it’s fundamentally about stereotypes and people have been conditioned to automatically react to a stereotype as an awful thing. In most cases, they would be right. But this blog is not filled with hateful or negative stereotypes and it’s not meant to incite anger or demean white people.
Is the blog really about race or is it more about money and social status?
It’s partially about race, but it’s fundamentally about class. It’s about a generation and class that values authenticity and credibility more than monetary wealth.
Is “white” a synonym for “bland”?
No! White people have done many spicy things - both good and bad.
