Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

From a generation ago, in regard to frequency do you see the problem as having:

  • decreased over the years
  • still the same incidence but we just hear about it more these days
  • worsened

And, how about from 2 generations ago or more?

I believe that you mean from my mother's generation to today. She was 92 at her death in 2004.

Nothing has changed, I don't believe. The devil is just as hard at work as in the early 1900's. However, in our church, we are more open to admit our problems. See Review/Herald Oct. 11, 2007. Our people aren't as naive now and we are requiring more accountability. That doesn't mean the Leadership is doing all it can to change things. I see and hear about abuse being kept hidden in churches. If things had changed there would be no need for Polly's Place!

The modern day christian is more able to divorce or leave their spouse without the church frowning on them as much. In fact it is TOO easy to move from church to church and from spouse to significant other without Leadership taking too much notice. I think that possibly nowdays emotional spousal abuse is more prevalent. After all, our church still doesn't accept ordained women pastors. Women are not ordained deaconesses. Why should a man have a lot of respect for his wife if the church Leadership doesn't trust their women to be on a level with their men?

Sorry, I got off subject. But there IS something directly connected to how women are treated in the home by how women are treated in the denomination.
