Hi folks,
I'm a born Adventist (as differing from one who became converted to Adventism later in life) and a life-long athlete. Not necessarily a good one but I've been working out all my life and it has paid off with having good health at 61 years of age.
Over the years, the activity I've participated most in would be running. The other activities were lifting weights, gymnastics, cycling, and basketball. I've run in about 20 marathons and countless races of lesser distances. You can say "health reform" has been my life - the exercise part, not necessarily the nutrition part.
So if any of you are participating in physical activities, this is a place we can talk. I've trained to be a physical trainer but am presently not certified. I've also read up a lot on a myriad of training philosophies so if we share our mutual life experiences in this regard , we can help each other to become even healthier than we are already.
In your service Alex

Alex, are there better shoes for walking than for running? Currently I just have one pair of Nike's that I use for my walks. I used to do some running, but it's hard on my knees and hips now.

Hi Pam I believe there are some companies that make shoes just for walking. From my experience, they are less cushioned, slightly stiffer and not made to absorb as much shock in the heel area as most running shoes do. Try googling for walking shoes and see what you come up with. My suggestion would be that the shoes made for racing would make very comfortable ones for walking? RUDYWOOFS
I HAVE heard that is it better to walk than run
dgrimm60 It depends on what your goals are. Are you young and fit and want to quickly improve the health of your cardiovascular system? (reach its maximum potenetial), do you want to prepare yourself for running races? do you want to play certain sports better? Walking in the long run will cause less injuries and is something most people can do. But if you want the most bang for your buck, go with the running. Alex

Hey, rudywoofs, you might want to check out Nordic Walking. It's a lot better exercise than ordinary walking (is exercises 90% of the muscles in your body), but it doesn't hurt your joints as much as running.
