Exercise physiologists will tell you that top X-C (Cross-country) skiers have the highest VO2 max uptakes of all aerobic athletes. Saw watch them at their finest when the X-C races are televised. Also watch the biathlon events (shooting + X-C skiing). Just imagine how hard it is after a hard racing effort to quiet your beating heart and hard breathing to shoot multiple targets. Each one you miss means more racing to be done as a penalty.

Hope everyone is watching these events I mentioned. Did you see how small the targets are in the biathlon? And if any of you have experience racing, you know how fast your heart is beating and you have to steady yourself, shoot between breaths in different position. What a hard sport!

The women's 10K X-C skiing race is on as I type this. What awesome athletes! What a total body aerobic workout. Watch how they push with their poles. And watch how they collapse at the finish from their 100% effort! Incidentally, their 10K times nearly match world-class 10K track times.

Are you as impressed as I am by the sheer power of the athletes in the 1.6 km sprints!! The intensity is so high and the time interval between heats is so short. In track, we have at least a day between heats. One girl collapsed and looks like she's out of it as I write this.

The French Canadians are always so good at that, especially the Bi-athalon. They are passionate in everyday life- I can understand why they would excel in this sport.

The 50Km (31 miles)winner won in a time of 2:05. That's only a minute slower than the WR (world record) for the 26 mile running marathon. And it's using the classic method which requires more double pole thrust. That's one tough full body workout!
