Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as their only creed and hold certain fundamental
beliefs to be the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. These beliefs, as setforth here, constitute the
church’s understanding and expression of the teaching of Scripture. Revision of these
statements may be expected at a General Conference session when the church is led by the
Holy Spirit to a fuller understanding of Bible truth or finds better language in which to express
the teachings of God’s Holy Word.

These beliefs are common beliefs that members should be taught. However, they are not the belifs required for baptism. Those are the 13 in the Baptisimal Vows.

Even in these beliefs there is variation amons SDAs.

It is important to note that only the church in general session can alter those 28 Fundamental beliefs and that no other statement of beliefs has that level of official church body endorsement.

Although individual Adventists may come up with any number of beliefs and any number of ideas on what they think... such individual statements do not constitute an endorsement by the entire church body and can not be portrayed as something the denomination itself believes or accepts.

When I speak about what SDAs believe to Baptists on their discussion boards - I do not use my own views - I use what is written in the 28 FB - voted by the church.

in Christ,

Bob

Yes,it should be noted that the vows and requirements for baptism and the requirements for membership in the SDA church are entirely different as you have indicated. Good post.

If you want to be a Seventh day Adventist .... you need to believe all 28 Fundmentals. And also have at least a simple majority or 50.1% of those attending church on that particular day.

It may be that not all SDA believe the 28 Fundamentals. Some may be grandfathered in due to the last change in the Fundamentals.

Not wishing to be a bad example, but believing the body of believers in the Adventist church to be honest in their conclusions, I have accepted the 28 Fundamental Beliefs since I'm sure those beliefs must have come from the Scriptures, though I have not read them. However I have read the Bible through countless times, from many different translations, and I accept the Bible as true.
Since the Holy Spirit is promised to those who read the Scriptures with a desire to serve the Creator, if there is a difference in what the Bible says, as compared to the 28 Fundamental Beliefs, it would not be good to change the Word to fit the 28 Fundamental Beliefs. And I feel safe and assured in believing what the Bible says.

"But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”[" Matthew 4:4 NKJV

I have no idea what you are trying to say. But I am sure it must be good.

You would do well to read them. Many of them twist the meaning of the referenced scriptures. Pay particular attention to #'s 7, 8, 13 and 18.

While I appreciate your counsel to possibly protect me from "twists and turns" basically found in the 28 fundamentals, wouldn't that place me somewhat in the position of being the devil's advocate. After all, the Bible itself can and is often misconstrued by some, as a result of searching with motive to make one able to find weaknesses in it's veracity.

I prefer rather to quote the Word with the hope that one (or some) might find the Love of Jesus and our Father as reason to shift one's direction, if necessary, before time runs out.

While it is true the devil goes about seeking whom he may devour, since I am no match for the power he is able to exert, I leave my best defense to One Who is able to defend me successfully.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
"
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

One effort I'm asked to give.

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."James 4:7 NKJV

If I follow that instruction I find I am even able to discern who the wolves in sheep's clothing are. However, just as Jesus did not blow Judas' cover before the time, I make effort not to make and reveal judgments before it is necessary. angelnot

"when the church is led by the Holy Spirit" wow!!

with a statement like that it would be assumed when certain individuals decide a belief for the church that it came from the mouth of God.

those who drew up the first fundemental beliefs were not so presumptuous in their preface.

come Lord Jesus, before there is nothing left representing You!!
