FROM THE EDITOR -
Every Thirteenth Sabbath, 25% of the Sabbath School Mission
Offering funds received are devoted to designated frontier outreach
and/or large city evangelism projects according to a schedule voted by
the Annual Council. The Second Quarter Thirteenth Sabbath Offering this
year is allocated for projects in the North American Division.
This issue will give a brief overview of each project.
THIRTEENTH SABBATH OFFERING PROJECTS
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION FOR EXTENSION TV STUDIOS FOR ADVENTIST MEDIA
PRODUCTIONS
The project will equip the Arlington, Texas, church with television
production equipment so that they can videotape their church services -
and probably some other events as well - for use as Faith For Today
television programs. The church has grown from 100 members to more than
2,000 members in the past 15 years, and the growth has come almost
exclusively through its worship services. In addition, the pastor,
Elder Mike Tucker, is now the speaker/director of Faith For Today, and
the ministry wants to create a church-based worship television program,
something the denomination identified as a need 20 years ago. The
project is being coordinated by Adventist Media Productions which is
based at the Adventist Media Center.
Amount requested from Thirteenth Sabbath Offering: US$40,000.
CONSTRUCTION OF JEWISH EVANGELISM TRAINING CENTER, MIAMI, FLORIDA
This training center already has begun some work. It's located
in Miami, Florida, and fully supported by the Florida Conference, the
Southeastern Conference, the Southern Union, and the North American
Division.
The Center will be used to train people in the best methods to
reach Jewish people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Already, it has
had significant success, and cooperates with the Israel Field, where
we've seen rapid growth of the church. The facility also houses a
church that conducts worship services in the context of Jewish culture.
The center also will be used to pilot new methods for reaching
Jewish people, so that ever greater numbers can be touched with the
gospel. All of these methods will be made available to the entire world
field.
This project is featured on Mission Spotlight. Contact:

service.
Amount requested from Thirteenth Sabbath Offering: US$50,000.
CONSTRUCTION OF A RADIO STATION IN MINNESOTA
A group of churches in Minnesota, with the full cooperation and
support of the Minnesota Conference and the Mid-America Union, have a
license to build a full-power radio station which will blanket northern
Minnesota. The goal is to create a broader presence for the Adventist
Church in Minnesota. The church there has not grown significantly in
the past decades, and this radio station will help make an impact on the
area.
Amount requested from Thirteenth Sabbath Offering: US$75,000
CONSTRUCTION OF A TELEVISION STATION IN NEW YORK CITY
The Greater New York Conference in the Atlantic Union has a
license for a television station on Long Island in the New York City
metro area. The funds would be part of a project to equip proper studios
and a control room, and to develop a full broadcast facility.
The television station has a potential audience of more than 1
million people in Long Island and with increased power, could cover
significant areas of this great metropolitan community with the goal to
make the Adventist Church more visible in New York.
Amount requested from Thirteenth Sabbath Offering: US$125,000
DEVELOPMENT OF A RADIO STATION IN PORTLAND, OREGON METROPOLITAN AREA
The North Pacific Union is seeking to develop a radio station in
the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area. The goal is to build the media
presence of the Adventist Church in Portland, leading to church growth
in a place that already has a strong Adventist presence - including two
academies, a hospital and its related entities, more than a dozen
churches, a major campground, plus a conference and union office. This
can build Portland into one of our strongest centers. The union is
looking for a radio station to purchase.
Amount requested from Thirteenth Sabbath Offering: US$125,000.
