Ooh, my in-laws do a lot of geocaching. My mother-in-law is handicapped though and wouldn't be able to find your cache. Luckily, my son tries to help them out when he can.
I found a cache on the Katy Trail once--quite by accident! A couple of months later I took my in-laws to the same spot and they "found" it.

This morning's hike through 30 yr. old trail/paths to a marsh with a unique geographical feature = a "one of a kind" rock.See if you can detect the strange feature on this rock?

Yes, we go geocaching. It's taken us to some great spots we never knew existed. There's a great view over the countryside about 1 mile away from our house that we discovered recently. To Adventisise the discussion, I suppose I should ask if it's OK on Sabbath :)

I would think that geocaching on the Sabbath is a wonderful way to relate to Nature which is God's handiwork. Nature is God's signature and we are very much a part of it. I've always enjoyed communing with God in nature. For me it's the "real" church.

Interesting! You may have me caught up in the idea of beginning geocaching. I will have a lot of time on my hands this fall---geocaching might be the thing I "take up".

1st time geocaching in Van Cortlandt Park. 0 for 3 finds. It's possible that 2 of the caches were disturbed by a mini-tornado we had recently in this part of the northwestern Bronx?

The northern and eastern part of Van Cortlandt Park. I found 2 out of 4 cache attempts. I think my inability to get stable GPS satellite fixes hindered me on the two I couldn't find.Too much tree cover. Going back in the late fall should help.

I have had problems with geocaching on the sabbath the two years I have been active.
Please give me some good reasons why it is ok. I know the nature-argument, but with geocaching it is mostly about the "thrill of the hunt", so it can be difficult at times to focus on biblical issues.
As for geocaching on Sabbath, I think it depends what it is about. If a caching trail takes me on a 2 hour nature walk and I find a couple of containers and sign the logs then that was a 2 hour nature walk. If it's a power trail and I'm stopping every 5 minutes to hunt for a film pot, I think that's a film pot hunt.
I recently bought a power kite. I'm a little uneasy about flying it on Sabbath but I have previously flown a small kite without worrying much.
On holiday we let our kids splash in the waves but we were uncomfortable about them body boarding.

I'm proud to announce that 2 of my geocaches have been nominated for awards by the Metro NY Geocaching Society: 1) Best location/view and 2) Best in the Bronx

My geocaching adventure this morning. Finding it was one problem. Getting to it was a little more difficult. BTW, it's in 3D if you have one of those red/cyan cellophane eyeglasses
