In S. Cal, about $4.05 for Regular now. If it keeps going like this, Obama can kiss the WH good-bye, almost no matter who is his opposition.

The last time I got gas, which was a few days ago, it was 3.58.9, at the local BJs.

This is exactly right on. My prediction is that half of the nation will convert to Republicanism by election time.

The Demos will have their head spinning.

People are really getting angry. Some of the anger will be at Obama and some will be at Iran and some at both. I am already hearing the cries of:

Bomb Bomb Bomb - Bomb Bomb IRAN ... ....

Next - you can replace Iran with Obama -

Bomb Bomb Bomb - Bomb Bomb Obama

Can someone please explain in simple terms without sarcasm, why the oil companies have had their most profitable years since the war?

Or is that not true?

Is the increase in profit, or profit margin? Maybe someone else can explain the differences. I've heard that using one number makes the profit seem huge, whereas using the other is more realistic.

Probably a combination of events ... it is really good for our area of the country. Production is up, jobs are available, etc

I paid $3.47 for premium

the oil companies up their prices because they can...not because it is necessarily needed.. prices are fixed according to that which people will pay.

just fyi, a good place to see the low and high prices in the US is:

current USA gasoline prices

There are several factors that affect the price of oil, and not JUST supply and demand...There is the threat of war, embargo in the Gulf of Azadi, where Iran boarder the gulf. There is the growing consumption in china where their economy is growing...There are other areas that are competting for petrol....like france and Italy....These factors drive up the price of oil to american markets...

So growing consumption in other countries make it much more profitable for US oil companies? That would have something to do with higher prices, but not excess profit ever in oil companies.

It doesn't matter much which spigot that oil comes out of which valve....When two partys are saying that they need the last barrel of oil, and are willing to given X amount of dollars for that last barrel and the other contry says "I'll give X +1 dollars" for it, you know that the oil people are allowing fears and worry to fuel the price of oil....

But back to the OP, a gallon of gasoline here is $3.80, 10 hrs ago...

I was watching the news this morning, where they were reporting on the rising price at the pumps. In the 2 1/2 minutes of reporting, the electronic display for gasoline at that specific station went up $0.17/gal..

$4.19 is high. Take heart, this is election year and prices will probably drop in the near future. Not to get into politics ... just sayin .....

I was not asking why oil is going going up, am asking why the oil companies have had extreme profits, remember they are the ones hiking the price at that pumps.

Any politicians in the oil industry? Are those dots connected?

Thats about the same as here in Canada..infact it is more here, but it's per litre. Yours is around $1.01 per litre, ours is around $1.10 per litre...

All I can say, is that they are all stupid reasons for gas prices to rise, plain and simple. Just a number of weeks ago when prices started going down, we were told that because the economy was so bad that's why the prices came down. So I take it that the economy must be doing quite a bit better for the prices to be coming up this high. What do these people think we are? Stupid? Its basically because the politicians allow them to keep raising the prices and than blaming each other for that.

I recall a number of years ago, prices were going up here and there, so inconsistendly(sp) and the word came that it depended on how far the gas had to be hauled. So if the truck had to drive further inland the gas was more! Do they think the people are that stupid? Yesterday on the news they were showing that in the middle of the US the price of gas was the cheapest. Duh, doesn't it have to be driven further to those states than to states that are on the coast's. I think what we're seeing is price gowging(sp).

I heard this a few years ago the the price of gas
going up and down is based on speculation --of bad
weather like tornadoes and hurricanes

Prices today range from $4.05 at Arco to $4.29 at Shell. One of the former low-price stations in town apparently went out of business overnight. Prices were taken off the sign, and the pump area is wrapped in yellow tape.

The other day I notice almost a 20 Cent difference in price's within a 2-3 mile radius. Can anyone say price gouging!

Went to the doctor yesterday. I was running on time and did not want to be late by stopping to get gas. After seeing the doctor - the price had gone up 5 cents. Within ONE hour.

Seems to me this is the non-serious forum and this gas price issue is very serious. :) Just saying?

The technicality here pk - is that it only becomes 'serious' if you mention the cause of the gas price issue.
