I noticed they had several Cannons listed. I must say that I really do like my Cannon Rebel.

Have had other friends who have had those as well. They really enjoyed them.

This one has an incredible recommendations.

I haven't ever had a Nikon, at least not a digital one, but I really like the user interface on my Canons. All I need is an anti-sand function for when you're at the beach.

Mine didn't make the list, I guess it's a lowly Fujifilm, but I have fun taking pictures. It's got 14 megapixels, 18x optical.
How do I put pictures on here? Any tips for me?

It used to be that you could get photos on here directly but nowadays you have to resize them on some website and then transfer them here. I have pretty much given up on the process as I am not very techie in regards to these things. Something I suppose I need to learn.

Do you have the Rebel film or digital? I Had a Canon F1, actually still do. Bought the Rebel and than a number of years ago traded it in on the Digital one.

The T3i (which I own) is a great camera, but is a lot more camera than most people will ever use, and I must say I often have to tweak the auto settings. I recommend a Canan ultrazoom for most people. The Canon powershot sx50 has a rediculous 24-1200 mm zoom lense, at f3.4-6.5, iso80. If that last sentence made you blank out, let me put it this way: $3,000-$4,000 worth of digital slr for $389. And yes, it takes amazing pictures.

I acquired a Nikon D800, and discovered a problem. The files are 36 mg, and are too big to email using mac mail.

Is that the smallest that it will make them? Are these jpg files? Or are they the raw file?

Any half-way decent software for working with photos will allow you to reduce the file size through compression of jpg files. Since I run Linux I always use GIMP for this process. It's open source, free, and available for Windows too. Just Google it.

Google "tiff splitter" for a Mac. You should be able to find some freeware that will work for you.

Unless Stan is doing this to make money, and a fair amount of it, Photoshop is a big expense. No sense paying out for that when/if freeware can accomplish what he needs to do.

First off, nothing compares to PS. I've been in the printing business for 40+ yrs and that's all printing companies use. Some might use corel draw, but even this doesn't compare, because since PS has been made to use on both platforms, pc&mac, almost all companies went to just PS. It has so much versatility its amazing. Even when taking pictures with digital cameras, if you take them as raw data you can mulipulate them better than compressed files and than compress them, etc.

Well, it might be all that companies in that business use, but it's a big expense for an individual. I look at what some people around here pay for software and I'm truly amazed. The proprietary software engineers have sold people a bill of goods. The price/performance ratio of hardware has gone down, down, down, and the price performance ratio of software has gone up and up. Both parts of the computer industry have similar expenses, but the software companies are just flat out stealing from people if you ask me. There's a reason companies like MS and Adobe are soooo wealthy and powerful.

I would personally be surprised if they would get that large Stan. We've worked on files much larger than the 117g tiff and than compressed them to jpegs smaller than a few mgs. So it can be done. But obviously you need a machine with plenty of ram. So laptops are out, even though some do a so so job.

They base there prices on the fact that the companies using the software make plenty of money, to afford the software. If I were still in the business, and be a designer, I'd purchase the software myself. But there are always ways to get the software for much less.

Well, if Stan has worked in layers on the image in question all of those would be lost to whomever he sends the jpg images, that plus the image quality loss are two pretty compelling reasons not to use jpg at times.

I don't own that particular canon, but have owned a few others. Like the F1, film rebel and than the original dig rebel, which I still own. Have been wanting to either purchase/trade for the t3i or the t4, both awesome cameras.
