MAJOR EVANGELISTIC CAMPAIGN IN THE HAGUE

THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS [ANR] ? At the invitation of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Netherlands, Pastor Daniel
Duffis, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of the
Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, (six islands north of Venezuela, with
a combined population of approximately half a million people), will
conduct a major evangelistic campaign in The Hague, Holland from 2 ?
22 October.

The meetings will be held every evening (with the exception of
Friday) in the local Seventh-day Adventist Church which seats over
700 people. The programme, which has the theme ?Jesus at the Centre?
has a distinctly international flavour and will not only cater for a
Dutch speaking audience, but also for those who use English, Twi,
Spanish or Papiamento as their mother tongue. The organisers
fervently hope that many will attend and will decide to become
disciples of Christ. Baptismal services are already being planned for
8 and 22 October.

The Adventist Church in the Netherlands has over 4,500 baptised
members. A significant percentage of the church membership is of
Antillean, Surinamese or Ghanaian origin. Likewise a significant
segment of the Dutch population is of similar ethnic background and
the campaign will target this population segment in particular.

JEWISH-CHRISTIAN-ADVENTIST THEOLOGY DAY

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY [ANR] ? The Jewish-Christian Association met
together in the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hungary,
Budapest on 26 September to hear good lectures, participate in
discussion and listen to good music organized by Jozsef Szecsi,
President of the Association. The opening address was presented by
Andras Szilvasi, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Hungary.

Catholic theologian, Csaba Torok, emphasized in his presentation that
?it is very important to ?remember?? referring his audience to the
fourth commandment of Exodus which highlights God?s instruction to
?Remember the Sabbath Day
? ?Remembering? is not only memories of
past blessings from Sabbath observance but the future act of
continuing to ?remember? to observe the sacredness of the Sabbath
day. Torok reminded us that in history ?remembering? has been very
important for those without a voice and words.

Rabbi Janos Olah, professor at the Jewish University, demonstrated
through the life and work of Rabbi Bertalan Kolbach?s, the
importance, depth and richness of Jewish folklore. In his performance
of Jewish prose, Istvan Karasszor, professor of the Budapest Reformed
University, illustrated the importance of the listing of Biblical
genealogy.

Jeno Szigeti, professor at the Hungarian Adventist Theological
Seminary, emphasized the important role, of housing persecuted Jewish
families, played by the Central Hungarian Seventh-day Adventist
Church during the Second World War.

Szigeti also expounded on the courageous role of Laszlo Michnay,
former President of the Adventist Church in Hungary. Michnay was
recognized with an award from the government of Israel for his work,
which was described by famous Hungarian poetess, Zseni Vanai, by the
name she gave him of ?gold-hearted leader of persecuted persons?.

SURINAMESE CHOIR TOURS THE NETHERLANDS

HUIS TER HEIDE, THE NETHERLANDS [ANR] ? The Surinamese Gospel Choir
?Voices in Praise? is making a concert tour through the Netherlands
from 14 September ? 4 October. The 25 member choir will perform in
numerous Seventh-day Adventist Churches in the Netherlands for the
morning worship hour and in special concerts. They will also perform
in Drachten, in the largest evangelical mega-church in Holland.

The choir consists of Seventh-day Adventists church members who live
in Surinam. It was founded in 1998 by conductor Mario Emanuelson,
with the express purpose of proclaiming the gospel of Christ in song.
This superb choir has a broad repertoire which not only consists of
contemporary black gospel music and spirituals, but also of
traditional hymns and classical works.

In recent months the choir has performed in Surinam and in a number
of other countries. Last August it recorded its first CD, which was
publicly launched in the well-known Torarica hotel in Paramaribo, the
capital of Surinam.

TED Prayer Guide for week 2 ? 8 October 2005

ST ALBANS, ENGLAND [ANR] ? Luke 9:11 - But the crowds learned about
it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the
kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.

Jesus wanted to meet his disciples in a peaceful place. They had just
come back from doing missionary work. Everybody wanted to tell about
their success and everybody was rejoicing. But the people had heard
about it too and they did not allow them to be alone. The text said
that they followed Him. He did not need to set up the TV dish for
advertising, He did not need to make and share brochures. He did not
need to build the best church in the city. People followed him. Why?

A short explanation is given by E. G. White: ?Christ's method alone
will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled
with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for
them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He
bade them, "Follow Me." {MH 143.3}?

I think today we are in a similar situation. In the Baltic countries
we can see that people are becoming similar to the people in Western
countries. People do not like to be connected with any church. The
old methods of evangelism do not work so well. However, there is good
news as well. There are some church members who individually find
ways on how to help their community and this breaks down the walls of
prejudice against Adventist Church. I think it is a good start for
reaching the people.

Prayer Requests:

1. The members who are still deciding what way is best in order to
reach out to their community.
2. That the Lord will be glorified by those who have found different
ways of outreach into their communities.
