“I Thought You’d Like to Know”
Dan Jackson, President
North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists

It has been a while since the last edition. Some of these items are several weeks old but I will include them just in case you haven’t heard.

· Forty people have made commitments for baptism at the Madison Campus Church, host venue for the Prophecies Decoded satellite series with Ron Clouzet.

· Chesapeake Conference has elected Kleyton Feitosa as their new executive secretary.

· Philip Stanley Follett, a former vice president for the Seventh-day Adventist world church, died in his home town of Collegedale, Tennessee on Friday, October 7. He was 79 years old.

· In October, the Arizona Conference re-elected their three officers at their 29th regular session: Tony Anobile, president; Ed Keyes, secretary; and Robert Hastings, treasurer.

· Buford Griffith, Jr. was elected to be the Southwestern Union Executive secretary.

· Iowa-Missouri delegates at their Quadrennial Constituency Session re-elected officers Dean Coridan (president), Robert Peck (vice president for administration) and Rhonda Karr (vice president for finance).

· I just paid my first visit to our new NAD field, Guam-Micronesia. The Mission has just concluded an evangelistic outreach called “All the Islands of the Sea”. There were a total of 80 meeting sites. Two of the mission office secretaries were among the preachers and both saw people make decisions for Christ.

· Elder A. W. Kaytor, former president of three conferences and a hospital administrator in Canada, passed away recently. A memorial service was held on Sabbath, November 12.

· Washington Conference recently completed Seattle For Christ with a combined total of 80 meeting sites throughout the city.

· Elder George Atiga, longtime Asian-Pacific Ministries Director for the Pacific Union and the NAD before his recent retirement, passed away on November 14. A service will be held on Friday, November 25 at the Central Filipino Church in Glendale, CA.

· Elder Frank Sherrill, retired church administrator who had worked in the Colorado, Potomac and Southwestern Union Conferences, and as conference president in Arkansas-Louisiana and Arizona, passed away last night in Loma Linda. Services will be held in Keene, Texas on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Yes. They did this in spite of a personal address from the GC President, warning them not to go this route.

Seems like a real bad precedent, in these last days.

Since we are told from the Scripture,

"There is neither....male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."Galatians 3:28 NKJV

what serious problems do you see from these developments, OG?

Hi LC.

(Not trying to hijack the thread)

Galatians 3:28 is a favorite passage cited by people pressing for change in male/female role definitions. Unfortunately, it is being used out of context. This whole letter deals with two dangers in Galatia:

Building faith on the Law of Moses rather than the promise of Abraham.
Second, interpreting liberty of the Spirit as license for the flesh.
The theme is the inheritance of the blessing promised to Abraham and his “seed.” It could not be inherited by a slave or a girl or a Gentile. Jesus fulfills the conditions and is the obvious son and “Heir.” How then can anyone else share in this inheritance and blessing? The answer is simple.

By total identification with Christ anyone can claim the inheritance!! Through faith in Jesus a person is baptized into Him, crucified with him (2:20) is clothed with Him, is in Him, and belongs to Him (verse 29; Galatians 4:5).

Because all are sons, all are heirs, which daughters could never be (3:29). So in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek, only Jew; neither slave nor free, only free; not male and female, only male.

If this verse is lifted out of its inheritance context and taken to abolish all sexual differences (neutered in Christ), it would contradict Paul’s teachings on homosexual relations (Romans 1-24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9), on the duties of husbands and wives (Colossians 3:18-19; Ephesians 5:22-23), on slaves’ attitude to their masters (Ephesians 6:5-9; Colossians 3:23–4:1) and in particular his qualifications of women’s ministry in the church (1 Corinthians 11:3-16; 14:33-38; 1 Timothy 2:11-14).

Accusing Paul of such inconsistency is a grave charge, with implications for the inspiration of the whole Scripture as well as his personal Christian integrity. To enlarge one verse of Scripture into a social or ecclesiastical manifesto is unwarranted and misleading, particularly in view of Paul’s specific teaching on the subject. “Christian Feminists” have hailed this statement in Galatians as the epitome of their inspiration—and hated Paul for almost everything else he said on the subject!

Rejoice always, and visit ADvindicate.com

I appreciate your reasoning from the Scripture, OG. I didn't follow all the way through the scriptures you provided but found the position you hold re: gender specificity interesting. Maybe these two scriptures might add some light to my own position re: accepting women in an equal position for use by God, at least in the ideal, no matter whether here on earth now or in the kingdom to come and the new earth.

" Jesus replied, “....For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven."
Mark 12:24 NLT

"Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven."Matthew 6:10 NKJV

It is obvious the physical aspect of man and woman will not be changed here in this earth. However allowing for freedom and choice for any ability for one, man or woman, is God's will on this earth, as certain woman who rose to prominence in the old testament Scriptures seems to corrobarate.

God blesses! peace
