ADRA RESPONSE TARGETS SURVIVORS OF SOUTH ASIA EARTHQUAKE
RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN [ANR] ? A massive earthquake measuring 7.6 on
the Richter scale which rocked South Asia a week ago has caused major
devastation in the northern territories of Pakistan and India, with
extensive damage in Kashmir. The latest death toll is reported to be
23,000.
?The destruction and loss of life in Pakistan is massive, and
Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) are responding rapidly
to this disaster? says Raafat Kamal, regional vice president of
ADRA?s Trans-European office.
ADRA has established an emergency team to assist with the
implementation of emergency relief projects in Kashmir, such as the
distribution of hundreds of tents, blankets, food packages and water
containers.
In its first international shipment of aid, ADRA International is
airlifting 20 boxes of medicine which will be sent from Malaysia to
the Islamabad airport to help earthquake survivors. ?Each box can
treat 1,000 patients for 90 days,? said Kamal. The boxes can be used
for distribution by small medical teams in rural areas. ADRA Germany
is also preparing an airlift of antibiotics and anti-bacterial
equipment valued at $84,000 to be distributed by the ADRA team in the
disaster-struck area.
In addition, Karachi Adventist Hospital has dispatched two medical
teams to Kashmir consisting of doctors, nurses, assistants and
paramedical staff to aid ADRA?s relief efforts with the distribution
of medical supplies and attend to the health concerns of those
injured in the earthquake.
To coordinate relief efforts on the ground, ADRA is setting up an
office in Rawalpindi, a city close to Islamabad, Pakistan, and a
field office in District Bagh, where authorities have already given
ADRA permission to begin relief activities.
?We have a major crisis on our hands and we are trying our best to
meet the needs of the people of Pakistan? affirmed Kamal. ?Often the
worst of nature brings out the best of human kindness ? our ADRA
offices, donors, staff and volunteers continue to respond to this
disaster in a wonderful way. I commend our ADRA team in Pakistan for
their swift response; our representatives visited the worst affected
areas within 12 hours.?
Kamal continued, ?Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by
this horrible tragedy. As one person cried out to one of our team
members ? ?I lost everything I had in just one minute. My shop is
gone, my house is destroyed, my family has been killed and now I have
to wait here without anything.? ADRA continues to bring relief in the
midst of the world?s most difficult disasters; to unleash the
potential of people who can win against impossible odds.?
ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and
emergency management without regard to political or religious
association, age, or ethnicity.

?ADVENTIST-JEWISH FRIENDSHIP CONFERENCE?
ABU GOSH, ISRAEL [ANR] ? From 6 ? 12 February 2006, an
?Adventist-Jewish Friendship Conference? will be held in the town of
Abu Gosh, Israel. Leaders, pastors and members in the Seventh-day
Adventist Church who are interested in an Adventist-Jewish dialogue,
who would consider starting a ministry for Jews, or who have already
started but wish to improve their knowledge and skills, should plan
to attend.
The purpose of the conference is to foster a positive understanding
between Adventists and Jews everywhere and to equip Adventists for
dialogue and ministry among Jewish people. ?This initiative, promoted
by the Seventh-day Adventist Church world headquarters, commenced
about ten years ago? says Richard Elofer, president of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church in Israel, ?but there is a greater need
today for our leaders to be more sensitive and positive towards Jews
and their history.?
?This conference is a way of saying that the work of reaching out to
Jesus? own people has never stopped.? says Bertil Wiklander,
president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Trans-European
region. ?The Christian church began by the conversion of Jews to
Christianity. As this world?s history is closing and Jesus is coming
back, I pray that such a movement will happen again.?
Every day of the conference will cover a special theme: Experiencing
Jewish Thinking, looking at dialogue between Adventists and Jews;
Experiencing Jewish Life, with a field visit to Old Jerusalem, the
Wailing Wall and the Mount of Olives; Understanding Jewish Mission,
with seminars on how to plant an Adventist-Jewish synagogue, lectures
and discussions on contextualisation of our message, sermon
preparation using Rabbinical sources, various methods and tools; and
Experiencing Jewish Suffering, with a visit to the Yad Washem museum
and lectures on Anti-Semitism and reading the Bible after the
holocaust. The conference is completed on Sabbath with Kabbalat
Shabbat on Friday evening, Sabbath School and Divine Service on
Sabbath morning.
?The significance of Adventist-Jewish Relations can be seen from many
angles? says Wiklander. ?Our mission to all peoples includes sharing
the gospel with the Jews; Ellen White has set before our church the
vision of a special mission to the Jews.? Wiklander continued, ?The
Bible teaches that God has promised to bless the offspring of
Abraham, who are the Jewish people of today; and remembering the past
2000 years of harsh treatment administered to the Jews by the
Christian church, we have a special duty to build bridges.?
?Because of its Biblical foundation? commented Elofer, ?the
relationship between Adventists and Jews is very strong. They share
the same Bible, the same God, the same day of rest ? Sabbath and the
same hope ? the coming of the Messiah.?
Jesus and the origins of the Christian church are deeply rooted in
Jewish faith; in fact Christianity would be distorted without seeing
Israel?s election as an integrated part of God?s plan of salvation.
About 15 prominent Adventist thought-leaders, from the World Church
headquarters and various Institutions will participate in this first
ever international conference. We pray that God will richly bless it
and that the work for Jewish people will go forward with great
strength.

ST ALBANS, ENGLAND [ANR] ? Meet the greatest evangelist in Britain!
Since 1947 the ?Voice of Prophecy? (VOP) has been the Seventh-day
Adventist Church?s outstanding evangelist. Over the years, millions
have been contacted for Christ; tens of thousands have taken the
courses and hundreds, even thousands, have been baptised. Not until
Jesus returns will the full story of the Voice of Prophecy be told,
both nationally and internationally.
Their success in Britain is attributed to several factors, but two in
particular; great leadership and the loyal devoted support of the
British and Irish Seventh-day Adventist Church members. Combine these
with the loyal financial support from members and Christians from
other denominations and you have a force for good that continues to
march forward.
On Sabbath 24 September the VOP in Britain celebrated ?VOP Rally
Day?. In anticipation of a splendid Sabbath offering it launched an
exciting plan to reach 1 million people for Christ in just one week!
Every member in about 300 Seventh-day Adventist Churches throughout
UK and Ireland was given an envelope containing 50 VOP cards and with
less than one hour?s house to house distribution work by each person,
the Adventist Church nationwide connected with no fewer than one
million people!
As of today an amazing 1,272 applications have been received for the
?Discover? Bible Course, demonstrating very clearly the continuing
effectiveness of this method of evangelism. We pray that God will
continue to bless this work to His glory.

TED Prayer Guide for week 16 ? 22 October 2005
ST ALBANS, ENGLAND [ANR] ? Pastor, we are very sorry to inform you
that we have to end our Sabbath services at ten thirty this morning
because we received information that the Israel deportation police
are searching the city for undocumented foreigners. This phone call
came to a pastor from one of our church elders in Tel Aviv one
Sabbath morning.
It is a sad fact that we are losing our church members, not because
of apostasy or death but because of deportation of foreign workers
who make a living in this country. A once alive, happy and strong
church is now a quiet, lonely and weak church. It is a discouraging
picture. But we always believe that our awesome God can do wonders
even in this pressing situation. He who can turn the tide and calm
the angry sea can make this situation into a blessing. Like a tree
after it is cut, it grows and forms new branches making rich foliage,
a shelter and refuge for the birds in the sky.
Israel, with 7 million people, has only 1000 or less Seventh-day
Adventists members. This is a gigantic and challenging task for each
church worker. To be able to reach out to this number of people whose
land is known to be HOLY, one must be filled with a double portion of
the Holy Spirit and be in one accord as in the days of old if they
are to see great results in the spreading of the message of salvation
through the Only Way, the Truth and the Life-Jesus Christ. Israel
Field keeps the objectives of the 13th Sabbath offering to plant 12
churches by God?s help for this year 2005.
Prayer Requests:
1. That God will intervene in the deportation of foreigners
2. That our Field will have financial stability
3. For the success of the 12 church planting projects in this Field
