Moderators Bravus Posted March 12, 2007 Moderators Share Posted March 12, 2007 On another forum someone posted a link to this 2004 story from the UK's 'telegraph' newspaper to call the human causation of climate change into question: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/07/18/wsun18.xml I did a very little bit of digging and found the original press release from the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research on which the newspaper article was (ostensibly) based: http://www.mps.mpg.de/en/aktuelles/pressenotizen/pressenotiz_20040802.html Here's part of the conclusion: Quote: "Just how large this role is, must still be investigated, since, according to our latest knowledge on the variations of the solar magnetic field, the significant increase in the Earth's temperature since 1980 is indeed to be ascribed to the greenhouse effect caused by carbon dioxide," says Prof. Sami K. Solanki, solar physicist and director at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research. Can't always trust what you read in the paper, eh? Rodney Willard
Here is a BBC video that brings together many of the issues that usually get ignored in the global warming debate. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4520665474899458831
Moderators Bravus Posted March 19, 2007 Author Moderators Share Posted March 19, 2007 Not BBC, Channel 4, which is a commercial channel in the UK. Here's the reaction of one of the climate scientists who was interviewed for that program: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/03/swindled-carl-wunsch-responds/ And a rebuttal to the points raised (which is *really* from the BBC): http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/03/a-much-more-eloquent-rebuttal-of-tggws/ (some coarse language) Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted March 20, 2007 Author Moderators Share Posted March 20, 2007 D'oh, I wanted to delete the second link above, just because it does contain some swearing and also because the relevant piece is 18 minutes into the program, but the time to edit has passed. The point made is that the makers of the 'Global Warming Swindle' 'documentary' twisted sources and edited video to make people appear to be saying things they hadn't said. You'd think if there was a strong scientific case against climate change it might not be necessary to stoop to those kinds of tactics.
