Moderators lazarus Posted April 17, 2007 Moderators Share Posted April 17, 2007 From the same survey: Fox viewers less aware. Virtually bringing up the rear were regular watchers of Fox News. Only 1 in 3 could answer 2 out of 3 questions correctly. Fox topped only network morning show viewers. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003571876 Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Dr. Shane
A little personal bias showing through there? The point of the article wasn't that "network morning news programs, Fox News or local television news" are bad sources of news and “'The Daily Show' and 'The Colbert Report'” are good sources. The article also said, Quote: The six news sources cited most often by people who knew the most about current events were: “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” (counted as one), tied with Web sites of major newspapers; next came “News Hour With Jim Lehrer”; then “The O’Reilly Factor,” which was tied with National Public Radio; and Rush Limbaugh’s radio program. Of course I fall right in there as I watch “News Hour With Jim Lehrer,” “The O’Reilly Factor” and listen to National Public Radio and Rush Limbaugh. Although I don't watch or listen to any of them on a daily basis. With the exception of Rush Limbaugh, those are my favorites. The article is speaking more about the types of people that watch fake news than the quality of content from the various sources. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Neil D
Quote: The article is speaking more about the types of people that watch fake news than the quality of content from the various sources. Which may speak of education , esp with our young people.... Perhaps we have been 'dumbing down" with the educating of society...The result of which, they like to watch fox news rather than intelligent middle of the road news sources.... Dr. Shane
I would be hesitant to go there. First, do we want to say that Rush Limbaugh is a good source of news? I wouldn't. Yet this same study says that some of the most informed listen to his program. In this article FOXNews is listed along morning shows and local news which are the mainstream affiliates (ABC, CBS & NBC). I think it is just that us news junkies enjoy political satire. Add to that that these shows tend to dramatize the news and make it like a soap opera which also helps people remember names and positions. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
