(Political-correctness is self-centered balderdash).

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

MM, Do you mean that the church is no longer calling sin a sin? That everyone is tip toeing around sin for fear of offending?

PC depends upon which side of the fence you are on.

Does anyone know what Political Correctness is? Do you believe it has crept into the church?

I just read a pretty interesting description of PC on Wikipedia. Basically, there is no real definition of it, and both conservatives and liberals use the term to discredit each other. I'm not sure what definition you are thinking of.

I had to chuckle, though, because until recently I always considered PC a good thing. I mean, who wants to be offensive? And why would one knowingly choose to use offensive terms with people unless you're looking for a fight? I suppose there are times when it is necessary to get in someone's face or hit them over the head (so to speak), but for the most part, don't we want to be all things to all people in order to lift up Christ to them? Or do we want to use terms we know will turn them off to what we are saying?

People need to see Jesus before they can be repentant. Many people *inside* the church have not seen Jesus, a subject being discussed on another thread, and it is not helpful or effective to get in their face unless they have. And since so many times we don't truly know a person's condition, maybe it's better to err on the side of mercy, as EGW says. We also need to take into consideration if a person is growing in Christ. It is not our job to tell them everything they are doing wrong, but to encourage them in their walk with the Lord so that He can convict them.

On the other hand, when church leaders are openly sinning, then I think it is biblical to confront them about it. And the Matthew 18 principle is a good way to do that.

I think pastors have a challenge when they stand in front of a diverse group of people with differing needs and in different levels of spiritual growth. Many of them decide the best thing to do is just lift up Jesus, because that will work for everyone. And it is very possible to preach/teach our doctrines while lifting up Jesus (the heart of all our doctrines) and giving people hope.

Thank you Carolaa. I think you have accurately described the situation and the Biblical way of approaching all of us 'sinners' for we ALL are sinners.
