Rebates going to illegals

Recommended Posts

What do you think of the current plan to give Illegals a rebate check in the Stimulus package?

Would the government then be complicit in assisting a felony and felons?

Well, in the vast majority of cases, crossing the border is not a felony. Furthermore, it is a stimulus package. The issue is to stimulate the economy. So we want to give it to people that would spend it. My only concern about giving it to illegal immigrants is that they are likely to send the money home - not spend it here. Yet, the IRS the INS. Illegals do have taxes withheld from their checks. Many do not file for taxes because they have fake Social Security numbers. So I tend to doubt many of them will be getting rebate checks. The IRS has to have an address to send a check to. If they are not filing taxes, how would the IRS send them a rebate check?

Well ... I think we had a rather heated debate on this issue and both sides produced evidence. Not sure what the outcome was. I guess it was in the eye of the beholder.

But, if someone is paying taxes ... the government would have an address I would think. And if they do ... they should be sending an agent to personally deliver them and their rebate OUT of the COUNTRY.

On the felony issue, there are circumstances that allow the authorities to charge illegals with a felony. A couple of years ago some Republicans in Congress wanted to make illegal border crossing a felony and were unable to. Most illegals that are caught are deported without ever being sentenced to jail. In the vast majority of cases, it is a misdemeanor.

Now on the tax issue. Most illegals use a stolen Social Security number. Maybe they use Redwoods SSN or Shane's SSN. At the end of the year it is Redwood and Shane that file for taxes - not the illegal. Then one day a statement from the IRS arrives in the mail that tells Redwood and Shane, respectively, that they earned $15K or $20K more in the previous year than what they actually earned and they owe more taxes. That causes one to investigate and discover there were two employers paying into the same Social Security account - one in Texas and another in California.

In the article I read, Pelosi said that in the most recent version of the package, increases in food stamps and welfare were exchanged for checks going out to those who don't earn enough to pay taxes. So that now includes all those who are being paid under the table. How the government will find these people I don't know. I do know that even though a person may not pay federal taxes, she/he could have to pay state taxes. Anyone getting aid of any kind is on the record. Remember welfare is given to legals and illegals.

I understand what you are saying Shane. My father suddenly discovered that according to the IRS ... he owned an oil well in Texas. This was quite a shock to him. And the IRS wasn't very happy about it either.

If stimulating the economy is our goal, we need only be concerned that the money is spent here, in the US economy. Increasing the amount of food stamps is a good way to do that. Immigrants can't send food stamps back home.
