They showed people who have a pigment problem who used to be black but are and have turned completely WHITE. Apparently we are ALL White down underneath. These blacks are now white as snow. It was strange to see them slowly turning to pure white ... spot by spot. Maybe we were all created equal after all. It is just that some are slower in catchin up from whence they've been. lol ... There are many white kids, due mainly to the influence of hip hop and rap stars, who wish they were black and think of themselves in those terms. They talk, walk and dress the same. I've noticed articles about it in magazines such as Time and Newsweek. It's somewhat similar to some of the things Norman Mailer observed and wrote about back in the 50s. --- "The White Negro: Superficial Reflections on the Hipster" is an essay by Norman Mailer that recorded a wave of young white people in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s who liked jazz and swing music so much that they adopted black culture as their own. The essay was first published in Fall 1957 issue of Dissent, and was reprinted in Advertisements for Myself in 1959. The so-called white negroes enshrouded themselves in black clothing styles, black jive language, and black music. They mainly associated with black people, distancing themselves from white society. One of the early figures in the white negro phenomenon was Mezz Mezzrow, an American Jew born in 1899 who had declared himself a "voluntary negro" by the 1920s. This movement influenced the hipsters of the 1940s, the beats of the 1950s, the mods of the 1960s, and the wigger of later decades. There are those who immerse themselves in the Native American culture to the point of changing their names to sound more N.A. I new one guy in college who was so into the Japanese culture he converted his part of the rental house with shoji screens, tatami mats and cushions. No chairs, no bed etc. He even wore kimono and ate with chopsticks. Why would white people do this? Well frankly there isn't much to the white culture. It's rather boring to be white. I agree with you. White culture is everywhere around us. It doesn't "stand out," has no "soul," etc. It can be viewed, as it was by the Beatniks, as the "establishment," and the Beatniks were, if anything, anti-establishment. What was more anti-establishment than joining the people "oppressed" by the establishment? I have two bi-racial, bi-lingual children. I see it right before my eyes every day.
