Woody
What is this MoveOn.org? If I sign petitions on their site ... I can get points towards a gift card for places like Best Buy etc. Why should I be paid to sign a petition encouraging Congress to bring the troops home. I'm tempted to do it just to get the gift card and I support the war. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Moderators lazarus Posted April 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2008 Isn't this a "politricks" topic? Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Woody
I think it is a trick .... in that you are correct. It is a trick to deceive the American public. fccool
Red, how about removing it from MoveOn.org and putting it on getsaved.org? ... you know ... getting people to come to church by offering them something they would want? Do you think it's a form of deception? The entire craft of politics is in a way craft of deception. You have to deceive lots of people, and even yourself, to get elected. You have to promise others what you can not possibly accomplish, and you have to deceive yourself that you have a power to accomplish what you have promised. It's not my quote... I just don't remember the author to give due credit here.

Dr. Shane
Moveon.org is part of Clinton's Monica legecy. Some have thought the words "move on" were about moving past the Bush presidency. No. They were about moving past the Monica affair. Those that started the organization were trying to send a message to the Republicans in Congress to "get over it" and "move on". Today it is one of the strongest voices in the Democratic Party. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Neil D
And politically, would you say they are politically far to the left, or are they moderates? Actually, they were showing just how far to the right the media moved when Bush took office and even before. They started correcting the inaccurate picture the ultra conservative Right was sending out as PR. Now some think that they have pointed out too much and suplanted thier own brand of Leftist PR...To the point that they are attempting to balance some of the general thought processes out there.... Personally, I think that they have done a lot to rectify the inaccuracy of the ultra conservative Right. And yes, there is some things that I prefer to take thier word on rather than some other Right Winger, ie Hanity or Drudge. And this is probably inaccurate in some people's eyes, but you know...I just don't care anymore... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Moderators John317 Posted April 10, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 10, 2008 That's OK. I understand. I used to be way, way to the left. So believe me, I understand both sides. I used to be an organizer of anti-war demonsrations in San Diego and Los Angeles. Would you believe some of my friends from those days are still organizing. I have seen a couple of them on TV in the last few years. They are professional demonstrators. I will no doubt see some this August in Denver at the Democratic convention. I'm going there to photograph and cover it for my local newspaper. A close friend of mine lives only a few blocks from the Pepsi Center. There's going to be lots of trouble there. I know that is what at least some of the organizers want. They want to turn this into another Chicago '68 so they can make the establishment look as bad as possible. It should prove interesting. I'm still in contact with some of those people. They have wanted to see the US defeated and defeated badly ever since before we entered Afghanistan. They're jumping up and down in glee. They hate America. If you don't believe me, go study their journals. I sold them on college campuses and on street corners. You ever read papers like The Militant or the Socialist International Weekly and Bimonthly? Many of the same things they said years ago are now being said by MoveOn.com. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Many of the same things they said years ago are now being said by MoveOn.com. I keep hearing about this leftist movement who desire the defeat of america.....AS I understand it, they are supposedly MAINSTREAM liberals.... Problem is, all the liberals that I am aware of, and this includes Moveon.Org, are NOT saying that. What the liberals are saying is that this country has been doing the same political things for the last 50 years and we have not solved our economic problems, nor our social problems....We need a change, and it involves us individually to move on to something better. We have had the conservative policys the last 8 years and look at where we are at....We are still fighting the racial problems, as evidenced by those who say we are NOT the problem and by those who say we are....We are fighting global warming, and some say it is spurious science...Some say our economics are going to overwhelmingly destroy us....Some say that we are not able to take care of the babyboomers and the Social security, and we need to privatize it....or just drop it entirely and let them fend for themselves.... It's the liberals who are trying to solve the problems....at least, coming up with ideas with solutions.... conservatives are saying what? More of the same....? That is why MoveON.org is around...to show that there is another viewpoint other than what the Republican machine is throwing out there and spining... Dr. Shane
I don't surf moveon.org so I am not qualified to give much of an opinion on them. I can address these topics: Economy: The economy runs in cycles. The Federal Reserve and Wall Street have more impact on it than anything the elected government does. Race Relations: A lot of progress has been made in this. The fact Obama is posed to become the Democratic nominee is evidence itself that racism is not today what it was forty or fifty years ago. A lot still needs to be done but the racism of today is a bit of a different animal than it was 50 years ago. Many minorities still miss out on job promotions or don't get business loans because of stereotypes that are still held about them. I do not see that any elected official, Republican or Democrat, has made that any worse or feed into it. Racism is a nonpartisan issue from the way I see it. Social Problems: Well, there we have a divorce rate, fatherless children, abortion, drug and alcohol addiction that top the list as social problems. I can't see that we can lay that problem at either political party's feet other than the abortion issue. Many liberal Democrats want to do nothing to reduce the number of abortions in the country even though there are many ways of restricting abortion without banning it. Global Warming: Bill Clinton and Al Gore Jr's Kyoto Treaty would have just caused thousands of jobs to relocate in countries that didn't have to abide by the treaty. It was a bad treaty. Today both parties recognize the problem and are working on a solution that will not exclude developing countries from compliance. Social Security: The return needs to increase if we are going to make good on our promises to seniors. Privatizing part of it will help but it will not be enough. We need a lot more fiscal constraint. McCain is the only one running now that seems to have a chance at dealing with this issue. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Woody
BTW. What is it with Obama and his ties to terrorists. Some guy by the name of Ayers ??? Just saw a fraction on Fox News. What is up with this? What does MoveOn have to say about that? Or do they talk about such things? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Neil D
What does MoveOn have to say about that? Or do they talk about such things? MoveOn has changed it's format since I last saw it. This topic needs to move to politics forum ...however, there are a few mainstream sources that talk about McCain whose primary source came from MoveOn....
