I have been asked to give a sports demonstration on saturday, i said yes because i didn t want to dissapoint my teacher. Is it wrong to do that on the sabbath? I surely hope there are some liberals in the house right now, but even more i want to know the truth about this matter. I can go to church and then afterwards go straight to the demo place...

Truthseeker, what does the Bible say? Pray and ask God for guidance, then see how He impresses your heart on the matter.

:)

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Why are you calling out for the liberals? Sounds like you are trying to make an excuse. I hope you and I are friends enough for me to be straight with how this sounds.

Some may call you to obey the Sabbath to earn salvation. I would call on you to do what you need to do to be faithful to God ... to Honor Him ... and to witness for His Truth ... Truthseeker.

In the end .... YOU have to be the judge of what is Truth and what is not. YOU are the one who has the opportunity to glorify and to witness for God and for Truth.

What the rest of us think is of little value. But what you think and what you DO is of great value.

Let me just say that you have stated that you want God to use you .... maybe He is knockin at the door with a mission should you choose to accept it.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I will echo Gail and say pray and read about the Sabbath.

Then I will ask, is this for school? Isn't school out already? I know of students who didn't study on the Sabbath because for the younger people, school is work and to study was to work. I don't know if that was just their way of getting out of studying or if they really believed that but there ya go. Unhelpful, trivial information. LOL

My thing (which is a bit more biblically based than that phrase suggests) is that the Sabbath is a break from doing the work of the week. So if you're doing it for school credit, or you're a professional sportsmen, then probably not, but if it's for fun and if it well help out other people (e.g. by encouraging them to get more healthy and active) then I'd say go for it. But you have to be convicted in your own mind by studying, not by the opinions of a bunch of web-folks (including me).

It is not for school, it is just for fun and to help someone. I also don t study on the sabbath.

Redwood thanks for your comments. I have asked a prof. History some very controversial questions. I will wait till i have a response, on the basis of that outcome i think i will act.

Hope you will share the outcome with us.

Bottom line .... Sabbath keeping like many issues of the Bible are dependent upon our personal interpretation. I can't tell you how to keep the Sabbath. You have to rely on your own understanding of scripture. Some feel the Bible it black and white. And if you don't see it 'their' way then you are after your own lifestyle of sin. And your interpretation is just an excuse to live that lifestyle. I disagree. I think that two and in fact many will see the Bible differently. But it does not mean that people are trying to live a life of sin.

After you pray and study .... go forward with confidence in how the Spirit has lead you. The Spirit may lead you differently than it leads me ... that is why it is Okay to differ in our understanding and interpretation of scripture. So ... go for it whatever you decide.

God Bless you in whatever it is and I pray that you will be a witness for Him. Just remember .... it was the Jews that thought THEY knew how to interpret the scriptures and how to keep the Sabbath and when they tried to impose their beliefs on others ... it was oppressive.

Our faith needs to be a personal one ... not an oppressive one.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I would like to answer according to the question, as if it were a question of mine for me; what should i do?.

"And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."

Isaiah 58:12-14 KJV

"How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days." Matthew 12:12 KJV

"Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed." Proverbs 15:22 NASB

I presume that last verse would be meaning counsel of those who were more interested in serving God than obtaining their own personal interests.

God bless! peace

Lift Jesus up!!
