Dr. Shane
McCain picks Alaska gov as running mate. Quote: John McCain tapped little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention... Palin, like McCain, is a conservative with a maverick streak who has shown a willingness to clash with others in her own party. A self-styled hockey mom and political reformer, she has been governor of her state less than two years... Palin has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain's image. Two years ago, she ousted the state's Republican incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski in the primary, despite having little money and little establishment backing. She has also distanced herself from two senior Republican office-holders, sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don young. Both men are under federal corruption investigations. She had earned stripes — and enmity — after Murkowski made her head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. From that post, she exposed ethical violations by the state GOP chairman, also a fellow commissioner. She and her husband Todd Palin, have five children. The latest, a baby, was born with Down syndrome. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane
It looks like we are going to have a real "horse" race now. One wonders how many Hillary voters are really going to take another look at the GOP ticket. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane
Quote: The pundits are calling her "Geraldine Quayle." Yes, I think we have to expect all kinds of swiftboat attacks on her. She has executive experience which McCain needed on his ticket. She also knows a lot about energy which is a major issue in this year's campaign. She is lacking on foreign policy experience but most every governor is. She does have Russia right off her coast so she probably knows more about them than most governors do. Dr. Shane
I call it a swiftboat attack because its purpose is only to be a distraction. What does it mean anyway? Did Mondale lose because of Geraldine? Quayle didn't cost Bush the election? The criticism doesn't have any substance - like the swiftboat attacks - it is only to serve as a distraction. I expect to see a lot more of them. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
carolaa
I think I'm the only one in the country whose jaw didn't drop at this announcement. I've thought from the beginning that she is the only one on his list who would pique any interest from voters. I can see lots of pros and cons of having someone so unknown and inexperienced. I'm anxious to see how she does in the national spotlight.
