Dr. Shane
Obama:McCain-Palin 'lying' "When John McCain gets up there with Sarah Palin and says 'we're for change'... you've got to ask yourselves, what are they talking about, how do they have the nerve to say it?" the Democrat added. "It's empty words. You're just saying it because you realize, gosh, Obama's been talking about change and it seems to be working, so maybe we should say it too," he added to mocking laughter from a crowd of 1,500... An ad by the Obama campaign featured a photo of Palin wearing a T-shirt extolling the scrapped bridge, which would have connected a handful of Alaskans to an airport at vast expense, and highlighted McCain's lock-step voting record with President George W. Bush. "Politicians lying about their records? You don't call that maverick -- you call it more of the same," the announcer said, breaching one of the last taboos of US politics by accusing the Republicans of outright dishonesty. Moderators Bravus Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 Bwahaha - and are Republicans' hands shaped differently? Or did all Palin's false allegations about Obama in her speech rebound on her too? Can't have it both ways. Quote Truth is important
Woody
I listened to the entire speech. And the only things I heard were truth. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody
Seriously. ONLY the President resides in the White House. Well ... if the president is married ... then the spouse can reside there also. But the last I knew ... Palin is not married to McCain. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Moderators Bravus Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 Given that she is the one who has a child with a disability, and given that it was her speech, it's pretty clear that it's herself she's talking about. She may have mis-spoken about the 'White House' as just meaning the Presidential arm of government, but to claim that this sentence is talking about McCain is to completely ignore the sense and context of the quote. As I said, 'be serious': I really don't have the time and energy to debate if the clear sense and intention of the words is going to be twisted because the person who said them was imprecise. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 9, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 9, 2008 More Republican business as usual - Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Woody
Not sure what the issue is. What ever she actually claimed .... it was according to policies established by the state at least this is what the state finance director indicated. It has been completely reviewed. It is all legal. Is there any evidence other wise? She already has refused much of her salary to save the taxpayers money. I don't see any issues here. This sounds like Demos trying to grasp at anything. Sad. Dr. Shane
Quote: Palin actually slashed funding for schools for special needs kids by 62%. Budgets: FY 2007 (pre-Palin), 2008, 2009 CBS needs to do a little more research. Palin actually tripled funding to schools for special needs. Moderators Bravus Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 So let's see those facts then. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 It could be that both facts are partially true, since apples aren't being compared with apples. Read this FactCheck.org article (reprinted in Newsweek) carefully: http://www.newsweek.com/id/157986 What it says is that Palin tripled funding for a specific class of special needs students needing intensive support. This is the source of the claim for tripled funding, but it is not for all special needs students. It is even possible that funding for all special needs students was cut while this particular group's funding was tripled. It's important to read carefully and think critically. Moderators Bravus Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 ...and here's the source for the 62% cut claim: Quote: During 2006, children served by special education facilities and programs, including the Special Education Service Agency (SESA) and the Alaska School for the Deaf , received more state support; but as of 2008 and 2009, the proposed budget was cut from $7,949.30 down to $3,156.00. From here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adrienne-williams/palin-gutted-special-ed-f_b_123774.html So it was not special needs funding as a whole that was cut, but funding to special schools. This may well have been due to more special needs students moving into mainstream schools, or to other factors. And even then, the claim is misleading, since the governor actually wanted to increase funding (budget link at the top of that story). I don't think Palin is good for America, but I'm not going to lie about her record in making that case - there's plenty of true stuff that's worrying.
