I won't use it with you and I must insist that you not use it with me or with other people. It is fine to attack arguments and evidence but do not attack people personally. Next time this is done, it will be deleted. I enjoy talking with you about these things. Let's have a civil, loving, thoughtful, respectful discussion. I would like to gather a list of words that are banned from use on CA. It would appear that "You should be ashamed of yourself." are words that are not tolerated. Is this what I am to believe? We could add this to "Hmmmm". OR ... could it be that it is not the words but it is just whenever the Global Moderator decides he doesn't like the way things are going. Do we equally ban such words or not? I It would seem to me that I've seen these words in other places but with no consequence. Why now? If we could get an explanation it would help. I know that I have seen much worse written and nothing is done. Another issue is that a new person thinks he is just talking to a regular person. All of a sudden a threat is made. I would propose that if a moderator wants to make a threat ... that he do so under an official banner not just as a user. IF you are going to make this kind of threat ... Quote: B. But I feel that if you are going to enforce this kind of language you need to do so uniformly. And if the words are bad ... why not delete them now. Why wait for the next time they are used? Moderators John317 Posted September 13, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 13, 2008 There is no "list of words" that are prohibited, but then do you need one? There are general principles and a few rules such as being respectful with people, refraining from making personal attacks and following directions and requests by the moderators. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

carolaa
I do have some serious questions on this topic. Can any moderator discipline members, even if it is not on the forum they officially moderate? How do members know if the one chastising them is a moderator, with authority to discipline? This actually happened on a forum recently, where I still am not sure if the person getting firm with another member was actually the moderator of that forum or not. I think it would be helpful if, when the moderators need to get tough, they would say something like "I'm putting on my moderator hat now...." Moderators John317 Posted September 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 15, 2008 A member should go to the bottom of the thread and check who the moderator is. The rule of thumb is that if the moderator-- or if any of the moderators-- says to stop doing something, it is not a good thing to tell him or her to go jump in a lake or words to that effect and then for the member to say they will continue doing whatever they feel like anyway. Also it is not a good thing to tell the moderator (s) that the moderator will be banned or his posts deleted if they tell the member again to stop personal attacks or posting about personal arguments that should be sent as PMs. Some basic rules: Be courteous No personal attacks; try to keep on topic and not make the argument a personal one. No name-calling, especially of a negative kind where someone has asked that it not be done. Do not post personal arguments-- send PMs if that is needed for these purposes. Follow moderators directions as to these issues and stop name-calling, personal attacks, or posting personal arguments when asked to do it. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
melvin mccarty
I believe that a moderator should not post on a thread that he/she is moderating. Would eliminate some problems . mel
Moderators Bravus Posted September 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 15, 2008 We've been around this particular mulberry bush a few million times. Who wants to just be a moderator and not take any part in the discussion? The only reward a *discussion* forum has to offer is discussion. Look, this whole thread is basically about the fact that Redwood got banned by John317 and he can't seem to let it go. He's going to keep asking about it. Be glad I'm not the administrator: if it was me, poking sticks at moderators and questioning the umpires decision would be immediate grounds for a whole new ban. Hard to see how the forum can work properly any other way. I do like Redwood, a lot, and enjoy his contribution to the forum, but he seems to have a *real* hard time letting go of the past. Heck, he's still bringing up the 'gringo' thing at any opportunity. Quote Truth is important
