Moderators Bravus Posted December 30, 2004 Author Moderators Share Posted December 30, 2004 Here's the question: When an electrical current flows through a wire the electrons move: A few metres every second At the speed of light I don't know On the dinosaurs and humans, it's a science quiz, and that's the science answer. It gets more complicated if you're a recent creationist, and that complication is included in the explanation given. Maybe the question should have said 'according to science' somewhere, but I assumed the context was enough of a clue. The reason it was included is because the quiz is about science misconceptions, and if you ask biologists which misconception bugs them the most, that one's pretty high on the list. Moderators Bravus Posted December 31, 2004 Author Moderators Share Posted December 31, 2004 Current tally: 119 surveys. She still needs more, so if you can pass on the link to friends, family, complete strangers, please do! By the way, don't feel like a failure if you didn't get them all right: it's much more interesting from a research perspective if you didn't! Planey
Bravus/Cassie I answered the survey but on further consideration I am not sure that I should have. You said you wanted to sample the scientific knowledge of the "general population" and as a trained Maths/Science teacher my input would tend to positively skew your results. Sorry, my bad. Moderators Bravus Posted December 31, 2004 Author Moderators Share Posted December 31, 2004 Nah, we wanted a wide range, Planey, and she'll be analysing by education level, if not education discipline, so your having participated is definitely a good thing. So, are you going to tell us how you went? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Quote Truth is important

californiagirl
That was a great survey. I learned a lot. My answers were probably 90% wrong -- but the last one ["I _hate_ science"] couldn't really be true. It was just a little more close to true than either of the other two choices. Because I'm not gifted in science. It's like a foreign language to me. Greetings to all and happy new year.... Quote californiagirl
Moderators Bravus Posted January 3, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted January 3, 2005 Cassie now has 199 form submissions - thanks much to everyone who has participated so far, and who has passed the link on to others. If you can think of anyone else you can pass it to, either by e-mail or on another forum you frequent, or... that'd be great, 'cos it's really no harder to analyse 500 or 1000 results than 200, and the results will be statistically stronger. cricket
Bravus, the school year is fast approaching. I started thinking about science today and science fair projects. Then, I thought about this. How did it go? How did the results fare? How did Cassie do at the fair?
Moderators Bravus Posted August 21, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted August 21, 2005 Hi Chrys Sorry it took a few days to respond to this. She did very well with her project: won her section at the school science fair (psychology and human science) and went on to the provincial science fair, where she didn't place. I've been encouraging her to 'publish' all the results on the web, but she's lost interest after the science fair. I'll see if I can dig up some of the info to post here, just for interest's sake and to say 'thank you' to all who participated. And this year Alex, my younger daughter, will be doing science fair! Moderators Bravus Posted August 21, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted August 21, 2005 Bah: both computers have had conniption fits and lost lots of data, and I can't find the results... Sorry, and thanx again! Quote Truth is important

Administrators Naomi Posted August 21, 2005 Administrators Share Posted August 21, 2005 LOL Jerry I did the same thing and received the same message. Then I looked at the date of the original post. We are several months late in trying to help out. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Moderators Bravus Posted August 22, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted August 22, 2005 Yeah, sorry about that - there's a limit of 500 on the free account and she got awfully close to that before the science fair. Kind souls who've stumbled on it since probably filled it right up. Promise I'll go in tomorrow and replace the quiz with a thank you page.
