I feel as though lately I'm writing this stuff, or words to the same effect, in every thread I participate in, and I sometimes feel as though I need to include it in every post.

To save my typing energy and your reading energy, I'm going to try to say it once clearly here, then put it on a web page and just place a link to it in my signature line. If you forget, you can just click on the link. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The Disclaimer

I understand the tasks for which I was put on this earth to be two-fold: (1) to love, live with, enjoy, teach and learn with my wife and daughters and (2) to try to understand how to live like Jesus.

I do not see setting others straight or challenging their actions or beliefs as part of my role on earth. The Holy Spirit is responsible for convicting other people of the areas in which they need to grow. I am responsible for listening to what the Holy Spirit has to tell me, through the Bible, other people and the natural world, learning from it and growing into maturity.

I believe there is value in sharing our experiences and the things the Spirit has taught us - not to directly correct others, but as raw materials for them in their own quest. When I talk about my own experience, it is not as a direct example for anyone, and it is not prompted by any illusion that I am a model for others. It is simply about sharing my experiences, and about being humble enough to recognise that they are just my experiences.

When I make statements, ask questions, raise issues and participate in discussions, my intention is always to turn my critical focus onto myself and my own quest to live like Jesus. This is not self-centredness, but the simple realisation that I am responsible for my own journey, as each of you is responsible for yours.

If anything I write reads as a judgement of you, that's not my intention - you may be reading something into it that I didn't intend, or I may have failed to express myself clearly. That happens frequently.

I seek, through God's love and grace, to love everyone fully and unconditionally. Sometimes I fail, but I hope when I do I'll apologise and reconcile and learn.

In case this is one of those times when I fail to communicate clearly, I recognise that others of you believe you have different missions, tasks and roles on this earth. Stating my own is in no way meant to judge or invalidate yours.

Truth is important

bravus,

FYI in case you didn't realize it...

one of the hardest emotions to deal with is...

that of not being understood correctly ..or communication failure..

We spend much time doing damage control on this issue..

ya see...I don't react so strong..if I am called a bigotted Pharisee or scumsucking dirtbag airhead jerk...

what I react to is if I feel I am being misunderstood as far as truth presentation..or a.......topic. grin.gif

So join the crowd...not the latter..I mean the former...

Dealing with communication failures hone our communication skills and tact..and also enable us to perceive the nuances of each others personalities and characters.

Ok, ok...you knew that already..but maybe someone here needed reminding.

Amen. I like your disclaimer, and I also like the way you communicate. You do it so effectively that for me, anyway, the disclaimer isn't needed at all. But it's good to have in case someone forgets. wink.gif
