Most subsides that I am aware of is where the farmer is paid for NOT producing a crop. The reasoning for this was that too much of a crop would cause the price to drop and then all famers producing the same crop would not get the price they needed to stay afloat. A good example of this was wheat. Lately, the subsidies I am hearing about are of 'inaddition to' the crop prices...and the 'do not farm' crops are not getting much moneys...Am I hearing wrong?
