Woody
The Demo's are trying to railroad a provision to give both Washington D.C. and Utah seats ... two added seats in the House. My feeling is that the House is full and has no room for more furniture. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
Why would they need more peeps? Washington DC does have a member, but not a voting member. Guess that's the price you pay if you want to live in D.C. Not sure why Utah wants another seat. Maybe population growth puts them over the line for another seat... Woody
My understanding is that Utah is just a compromise to get Republicans to vote for it and not make a stink. Utah is strongly Republican so ... that is why they chose to give the seat to Utah. Washington DC is strongly Demo ... so in this way ... the balance of power would remain the same. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
Well...the people who live in DC *do* pay taxes too. To be honest, I guess I'd want a vote to be heard as much as anyone else in the country. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
The Constitution would have to be changed since it allows only 435 voting members. It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Dr. Shane
Utah is strongly Republican so ... that is why they chose to give the seat to Utah. Washington DC is strongly Demo ... so in this way ... the balance of power would remain the same. Sounds like a good compromise to me except, in the near future (after the census) Utah could lose its seat. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members rudywoofs (Pam)
one seat is already permanent - just not a voting member... we can start to worry when the other seat shows up as a folding camp chair Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup.
