Outta Here
I found this slide presentation particularly alarming this morning. Did you know that carmine, a red food colouring additive, is made from ground up bugs?! Yuck. I'm having second thoughts about eating that strawberry yoghurt in the refrigerator. You're Eating...What? Vegetarian thoughts?
Administrators Gail Posted February 26, 2009 Administrators Share Posted February 26, 2009 Doesn't surprise me... that's probably what my paint is made of, too. But I don't eat my paint. Liz
Personally, I like seaweed. But I agree some of the other stuff is a little nasty. Members phkrause
Actually seaweed is good source of some nutrient that escapes me at the moment. pk Quote phkrause By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}
Members rudywoofs (Pam)
Depending on the type of seaweed, these nutrients can be found in various quantities: Iron, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Total Folate and Vitamin K. Large amount of sodium in seaweed, so if you have thyroid problems, beware about eating lots of seaweed. seaweed/spirulina DietandFitnessToday.com Quote Pam      Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
LOL I have an idea that we eat more bugs that have been processed during food production than we'll ever know! Dottie
Most of the food examples mentioned I have no problem with because we don't eat them at our house. But xanthan gum I have to be careful about. I can dip my finger into any thickened food, such as cream cheese, even the tofu type, or any thickened salad dressing, and wipt it on my boy's face. His face will immediately turn red. The doctors pass it off, but I think if his skin turns red, what is it doing to his insides??
Outta Here
I've just recently started adding xanthan gum to our menu. It's the only gluten-free, cornstarch-free thickener that we can tolerate. It's interesting (to me) that it causes problems for others. Though we only use it sparingly, we'll have to keep an eye out for allergic reactions. Thanks for the "heads-up"!
Amelia
Quote: Here is a very brief sampling of the FDA's Food Defect Action Level list. They begin investigation when foods reach the action level they've set. According to the FDA, typical foods contain about 10 percent of the action level, but others say they contain more like 40 percent. Dottie
My mom always used to say, "You have to eat a peck of dirt before you die." A peck, I believe, is either 1/4 or 1/8 of a bushel. But most of our food was grown in someone's garden, not in a large farming operation.
Liz
My mom always used to say, "You have to eat a peck of dirt before you die." A peck, I believe, is either 1/4 or 1/8 of a bushel. But most of our food was grown in someone's garden, not in a large farming operation. Was she saying that that was how much dirt it would take to kill you? Or was she saying that everyone should eat that much dirt in their lifetime? This reminded me--my older brother used to eat dirt with a spoon, he was always kinda weird--still is. Dottie
My mom was saying that much food contains at least a small amount of dirt, and by the time one dies, it would add up to a peck.
