bonnie
This is such a dangerous area, I don't understand why the countries or corporations can't work together on this. The ships could travel in groups of 3-4. Each country could provide 1-2 warships to escort the groups of cargo ships through the area. Going after the guilty, the ones that do this would provide a permanent solution. We wait for the international community according to Hilary Clinton. As they have done nothing in the past, freed the 260 hostages already held, why would they do anything now? One being held has family in MN. They cannot raise the 300,000.00 to pay the ransom. We do not have the will Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. carolaa
Are the crews of our ships armed so they can try to fight off these attacks?
bonnie
Are the crews of our ships armed so they can try to fight off these attacks? Doesn't sound like it. Nor the other cargo ships. From what it sounds like the pirates are in little more than a speedboat but are fully armed. A few holes in their boats might give them a new perspective. Not sure why any of these cargo ships have to be sitting ducks for a bunch of thugs. A strong show of force at times gives others a attitude adjustment. I mentioned earlier when we lost our home in a tornado and looting began within the hour. Our island looked like we were under an invasion as the national guard came in from all directions. A pretty harsh and determined response of "shoot to kill looters on sight" caused the looters to rethink their priorities. Ended the looting problem Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane
Well, I do think the ships should certainly have the right to defend themselves. Yes, cargo ships in this area should all be allowed to have private security forces. Simple shoulder-mounted rockets would be able to take out any small craft of pirates advancing toward the ship. Members phkrause
Just like the airplanes, maybe the ships should have a few military guys going with them, for protection. pk Quote phkrause By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}

Woody
Obama did nothing. He needs to be criticized for taking so long and it would have been longer had it not been for the captain. Moderators lazarus Posted April 12, 2009 Moderators Share Posted April 12, 2009 Obama did nothing. That is so telling. I told you to be careful. How on earth would you know what Obama did or didn't do. My guess is that Obama did what many Presidents have done before, allow the professionals on the scene to assess the scene and make recommendations. Maybe Obama made the final decision, who knows. If the captain died you would said the same thing, "Obama did nothing" You are showing your true colors dude! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Members phkrause
Redwood I know the mission failed and of course that will always reflect on the president. But I have always given him the credit for at least doing something, just sorry that the guys going in crashed, otherwise we will never know if it would have worked or not. For sure the captain is the hero for allowing himself to be taken instead of his crew. But you have to know that an operation of that kind takes time, but president Obama had to give the OK, after listening to his advisors. I just thank God that it worked for the best. pk Quote phkrause By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. Moderators lazarus Posted April 12, 2009 Moderators Share Posted April 12, 2009 lol, you just can't bring yourself to say it can you? I'll say it. Obama passed this early test. Dr. Shane
Well, I can say this, at least Obama didn't mess it up. The captain forced everyone's hands when he jumped overboard again. It wasn't as if Obama gave the order to storm the life boat or anything. Obama did have the right people there and at least they were not talking about giving these thugs freedom or money. So I think Obama does deserve some credit but he certainly shouldn't be credited with saving the day. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators lazarus Posted April 12, 2009 Moderators Share Posted April 12, 2009 My comments are a bit tongue in cheek because a President's ability to affect a situation like this is extremely limited. My point is; if you are willing to give outright condemnation when things go wrong be also willing to give a little credit when things go OK. olger
Redwood you have to admit that going from 20+ hostages to just 1 in a matter of hours is a stunning stroke of leadership on Obama's part. This could have been a much worse if Obama had not ordered those crew members to fightback and those warships to go immediately to the area. Come on Red, he's doing really well in this early test.
