I think most people if not all are aware of that and why. If this was not something that was always uppermost in your mind in certain discussions you would not be bringing it with the frequency you do

So it's not just me!!

...whew...

Nope.It happens quite a bit on the forums. Drop a little inuendo here and there, imply certain things and then step back in innocence.

Saying anything produces more innocence and accusations or remarks the other person is on the attack.

Not necessarily to require apologies but to keep the "evil needs' uppermost in the minds of others.

No one has the right or obligation at this point to apologize, but we don't want them to forget

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

I hope you wouldn't want to forget. When we forget the past, that's when we repeat it.

Exactly.

Let's hope we never forget the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the amendments, the Ten Commandments, the Oath of Office, our wedding vows and the Pathfinder pledge!

Depends on what you mean by "not forgetting"

To continue to use it as a excuse,a cause or blame, yes I would.

If the only purpose is recrimination ,it doesn't serve any purpose at all if those responsible are not here to listen.

As a part of history it should be remembered as many issues should.

LOL - I can agree with all of that.

But when discrimination continues, it keeps the memory fresh.

We will always have discrimination. Not always necessarily against african americans.

The memory of slavery cannot be kept fresh as any one that had lived under slavery has long since died.

To hold the color of someone's skin against them is the height of

ignorance. Just as african americans can be very prejudiced against whites, simply because they are white.

People face discrimination for a host of reasons, all pretty stupid but that is life.

People that are obese, people that are poor, and at times from what is said here, the rich. People that are against gay marriage face an avalanche of Bigot and homophobe. The discrimination gays used to face has now switched.

It is not sufficient to treat them as we would want to be treated. We have to ACCEPT their lifestyle as only one alternative.

Discrimination is never right, nor is it fun. Will we stop in this life? NOPE.

No one race, class, sex has a monopoly on the foolish results of discrimination.

To keep up the mantra on slavery however tactfully or carefully used is as foolish as a woman reminding everyone what the status of women used to be.

More instead of less will be the lot for many as end times get closer

The memory of slavery cannot be kept fresh as any one that had lived under slavery has long since died.

The experience of slavery will be kept alive in the same way that the holocaust is kept alive, the experience of the civil war, WW1 etc.

Isn't this thread about an explanation of socialism? What happened to that?

You can tell me about how i'm this and that and how both of you are tired of this and that but I will continue to express my views no matter what.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Just because folks are dead that does not mean that the "memory" is dead. Your statement was just such a crass statement.

You can only have a memory of what you have gone thru or personally witnessed.

You can not keep the experience of slavery alive, you were never a slave.

A blight certainly on our nations history. Not to be taken lightly or considered no account.

But it does nothing do reduce racism when it is always thrown into the mix to people that have not been guilty.

The civil war was a hideous thing from all accounts. Does that mean we keep throwing it at all southerners because over a century ago they wanted to keep their slaves?

Do we keep reminding the Japanese of today of Pearl Harbor? Another mind boggling event, the suffering must have been terrible.

You have not lived slavery anymore than I have. What we can do is to treat anyone regardless of the color of their skin as we would want to be treated.

While you may consider my statement as a crass statement, I consider yours as attempting to keep something alive that has no personal application to you. And to what gain?? No one here can apologize, make it as never happening, or assure you or anyone you will never be discriminated against again.

I am sure you have been. The worst discrimination I have experienced was at the hands of two black women I considered good friends. Discrimination is with us till the end. Slavery is not. I cannot fathom being a slave, but nor can you. Read all the books you want and listened to all the history and you cannot walk in those shoes
