Quote:
The Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog breed of Terrier type, developed in the 1800s in the historical area of Yorkshire in England. The defining features of the breed are its small size and its silky blue and tan coat. The breed is nicknamed Yorkie and is placed in the Toy Terrier section of the Terrier Group by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale and in the Toy Group or Companion Group by other kennel clubs, although all agree that the breed is a terrier. A winning showdog and a popular companion dog, the Yorkshire Terrier has also been part of the development of other breeds, such as the Australian Silky Terrier. They are not good dogs for children because they are very fragile. They are the second most popular breed of dog and are sold at a high price.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog, weighing 3.2 kg (7 lbs) or less, with a glossy, long silky coat that hangs straight from a part that runs along the middle of the head, back, and tail. The coat is dark blue on the back with a tan chest and tan on the head and legs, a pattern described as "tan with a blue saddle."[1] Small erect ears are covered with short, deep tan colored fur. The tail was traditionally docked but today the Yorkshire Terrier often has a big butt a long tail, held a little above the level of the back, with long blue fur parted down the middle. Like most dogs bred to be pets rather than working dogs, breed standards contain detailed descriptions of precise colors and placement of markings, as well as body proportions and structure. Most importantly, according to the Standard, a Yorkshire Terrier should have a general look of self confidence, "conveying an important air".

Interesting that the Yorkie Terrier is the second most popular breed. I was surprised about this. However ... nothing holds a candle to a Beagle/Terrier. I can't imagine a Yorkie driving.

In addition they are an arrogant little dog, believing themselves to be more important than they are. They are great at starting fights and then crawling under something to avoid what they started. The following says it all.......

Yorkshire Terrier should have a general look of self confidence, "conveying an important air".

Someone forgot to tell them tho that a lot of that importance is only in their own mind.

Yorkies don't drive, they have their willing drones carrying them around

Yorkies are still better than cats.

Cats do not crave the limelight as yorkies do and the constant affirmation they are important.

For dogs give me the rotties, dobies or akita's.

They are self confident and don't make a noise(bark) just to be noticed.

When they do the prudent person pays attention

I'm with you Redwood. But I still personally like big dogs, like German Shepherds, Akitas, Malamuts, etc.

The reason they don't make good drivers, is because they have ADD, they would be all over the road, because they saw something shiny.

I guess I am happy to be a drone for mine, I wouldn't trade her for anything...even though, technically I am a cat person.

Okie Dokie.

I am not a Yorkie fan. But I was pleased to learn that a terrier of one kind or another was second most popular.

I wonder if people choose pets that have personalities similar to their own, whether it is flashy, quiet, whatever.

I have often wondered that about those that own pit bulls.

Rotties, dobies and akita's are pretty laid back till they sense a threat

I don't think that there are any bad dog breeds. I do think that there are bad and irresponsible dog owners, and bad and irresponsible people that have exploited individual dogs and breeds. Which is a real shame.

Certain characteristics are more prominent in certain dogs.

Pit Bulls were developed and bred to fight. Many are good and faithful companions but there still are tendencies. Many people are not bad owners they just fall in love with a cuddly puppy and do not have the skills to train them correctly.

Rotts need a firm hand as well but are an incredibly intelligent animal.

Yorkies have the terrier mentality but are to fragile to amount to much except noise

Maybe that's why I don't have any pets, because I can't find one that looks like me. LOL

Quote:

That is a proven fact. However, there are dogs that are naturally more aggressive than others, and some were deliberately bred to be killers. And there are other breeds more aggressive than pit bulls and rottweilers, that no one thinks of as dangerous.

Do you know which dog breed is the most aggressive? According to a study by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania involving 6,000 dog owners, the number one most aggressive dog is the dachshund. Number 2 is the chihuahua, and the third most aggressive dog is the Jack Russell terrier. Pit bulls and rottweilers actually scored average or below average for aggression.

Rotts are a lethal weapon if they have not had good breeding and a firm hand. They are highly intelligent and very protective of family.

As bad as the owner that does not train and restrain is the human that does not respect the space of a strange dog.

To many approach fast and want to pet the nice puppy. That can mean going home without your hand.

That is what I don't understand about people. Is that they always, want to pet a strange dog. We stopped taking our little dogs to the park, because we were forever being approached by strangers wanting to (like Bonnie said) "pet the puppies" or worse wanting to hold them. Although, I didn't see the bigger dogs being approached as much, I am sure it happens. Why do people do this???

Like I said, we stopped going to the park, because it was no longer any fun.

You can't get it across to people. The dumbest thing they do is to put their face right in the dogs face.

I raised rotts for a number of years. My female Heidi was protective but a very stable dog. A friend of mine liked her and always gave her a treat when she came. I told her never to approach the dog if I was not home. She stopped by one day and thought she would be nice to heidi and give her a treat and play with her while waiting. Heidi got past Isabelle and that is as far as she got.Isabelle made a grab for her and yelled at her

I came home about an hour later and Isabelle had spent that whole time against the garage wall with heidi crouched and snarling in front of her. Thankfully she was to terrified to move.

Nobody thinks of golden retrievers as being aggressive dogs, but it's the golden retriever down the road that viciously threatens me if he sees me walk past his house, while I have made friends with the pit bull farther down the road.

The people next to where we used to live have a rottie. She was very non-agressive, laying out near the sidewalk all day long so she could be near when the neighborhood children walked by or were playing. The younger ones were not afraid of her. Only the teen boys were afraid of her and would walk on the other side of the street.

But I don't approach a dog that I don't know, or that doesn't know me. Around our neighborhood, there are a lot of people walking dogs, and most of the dogs are friendly. My rule is to always talk first, from a distance,to the person walking the dog.

Actually dgrimm, I think its the pet that picks us. :) hahaha hehehe hohoho

Of the last three dogs I've had, a Belgian Shepherd, Akita Chow mix, and a Akita Shepherd mix, the Akita Chow mix (who weight in at 140 lbs) was something else. If you even looked like you wanted to hurt someone in the family, he was right in your face. And that was it, because after that, you were always on his do not like list. I don't remember anyone that wasn't afraid of him at first sight. He was a beauty, I miss him alot, I miss all of them.

A neighbor I babysat for one summer, while both parents were at work, had a Great Dane. They bought him because their house kept getting broken into. He took care of that problem.

One day, the boy, who was the oldest, and I don't remember how old, maybe 8 or 10, was playing around, pretend hitting at me and said "sic 'er Blue." That dog had gotten to know me, so he didn't attack, but he watched me in a not friendly at all manner for the rest of the day. I told my mother when I got home, and she told his mother. She made sure that he would never, ever sic the dog on anyone again. There were no further incidents after that, and the dog did seem to decide I was not a threat to his family.

She would have known they were afraid or they had teased her a time or two.

A good well bred rott will protect children. Pity the person that ever tried to harm a child if the rott considered the child her responsibility.

I had a man try to buy one from me that "wanted a dog he could tie to the front door and keep people away"

I refused to sell him one and told him the dog could likely kill someone.

He insisted on seeing mine after he told me there wasn't a dog on earth that could scare him.

I took him to their run and said "heidi quick" and clapped my hands. She knew what that meant and came flying out of the shelter and took a hold of the chain link in her teeth. She was rocking it back and forth trying to get to me. When she started literally climbing the chain link the rather obnoxious man jumped behind me for protection. I reminded him he was not afraid of any dog.

He said"Lady, that ain't no dog, that is a demon straight from Hades" and he left.

He is the kind that usually has a dog attacking for no reason

I have a coworker with two doxies. They are most vicious, nasty little buggers ever, unless she is holding them. I love dogs. But I won't go into her house until those two are put outside. They will attack for no reason but their own. She claims they are just little loves. HAHAHA. She has seen them almost take off my hand just reaching for my purse in their line of sight. I understand they are a protective breed but holy cow, they need mental health care. LOL

The apt complex I live in is full of chihuahuas. Now there is a dog that needs daily xanax. The downstairs neighbors dog Chewy does this, "oh I am so cute and loveable" act. Then once he gets in close, becomes a speeding bullet of teeth. Of course no one with a dog or cat in this complex bothers to follow the leash law. They just open their doors and let the animals free to do whatever.

I really do love animals. When they are properly trained and contained.

Yeah, the people with the golden retriever that is so vicious couldn't believe he could possibly be that way. But the time he came after me snarling, with his teeth bared, one of the kids was there talking with me and grabbed the dog's collar and stopped him from getting closer to me. He told his parents what happened. But they still don't keep the dog confined. I still have to be careful when I go by there, to not allow him to see me.
