In states that have so-called "filial responsibility laws," the nursing homes may seek reimbursement from the residents' children. These rarely-enforced laws, which are on the books in 30 states, hold adult children responsible for financial support of indigent parents and, in some cases, medical and nursing home costs. For example, Pennsylvania recently re-enacted its law making children liable for the financial support of their indigent parents. Jeffrey A. Marshall, an ElderLawAnswers member attorney in Williamsport, Pa., says the new Medicaid law could trigger a wave of lawsuits involving adult children. "Litigation between nursing homes and children is likely to flourish," Marshall writes in the Jan. 20, 2006, issue of his firm's Elder Care Law Alert. I heard on the news today that it is one more way to cut Medicare and Medicaid costs that is being seriously looked at. Very possibly health benefits will be taxed as income trying to raise vast sums of money for universal health care. Value Added Tax is another very real possibility. With the financial disaster this country is facing it now suddenly has renewed interest and possibilities of being enforced. This country cannot sustain the direction we are headed. The administration cannot keep printing money and it will come from wherever they can get it. The news today said the first stimulus had not provided the jolt that was needed so now we need another. The government is not a business that produces and makes money to spend. They are a parasite that latches onto whatever is available from those that do produce and earn money. There has not been one sustainable job produced by this big influx of money.The big photo op of the 25 police officers hired is just that. The ones paying the salary have already said they will be let go at the end of the year as there just is no money. How can people accept the logic of having a overdrawn checking account and overdrawing more to get themselves out of the financial hole. Tax revenues are down How many "socialists" countries to date have told our president, DON"T GO DOWN THE PATH YOU ARE HEADED? He is going to re-invent socialism and show the world how it is done.Only he is finding that going after the rich isn't working so well,tax revenues are down. Businesses are contracting. He will print and squeeze till there is no turning back We have not seen anything yet. It is still relatively good times. It cannot continue and yet he is. Another stimulus.
