Obama's Rosy Scenerio Turns Thorny

President Barack Obama’s economic forecasts for long-term growth are too optimistic, many economists warn, a miscalculation that would mean budget deficits will be much higher than the administration is now acknowledging.

The White House will be forced to confront the disconnect between its original, upbeat predictions and the mainstream consensus about how the economy is likely to perform in a new budget forecast to be unveiled next month.

Christina Romer, chairwoman of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers, said in a POLITICO interview that the administration — like many independent economists — did not fully anticipate the severity and pace of this recession. She said the White House will be updating its official forecasts.

The new numbers will come as part of a semiannual review that, under ordinary circumstances, is the kind of earnest-but-dull document that causes many Washington eyes to glaze over.

This time, however, the new forecasts — if they are anything like what many outside economists expect — could send a jolt through Capitol Hill, where even the administration’s current debt projections already are prompting deep concerns on political and substantive grounds.

Higher deficit figures also would arrive at a critical moment in the health care debate, as lawmakers are already struggling to find a way to pay for the president’s nearly $1 trillion reform package.

Pretty soon he'll be telling everyone the answer is for them to just go shopping.

Comments like this make you wonder if the current president will ever take responsibility for his own decisions or actions.

I don't think he will as the blame game for any and all he does is accepted by his groupie's

Well, he does have a big mess to mop up.

That is a strange way of looking at it. Obama was fully in favor and pushed the first idiotic bailout. That belongs to Bush but Obama cannot fall back on it is all Bush. Not when he was in favor and pushed for something.

At the heart of the mess was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.The mess spearheaded by those that decided it was a RIGHT to own a home.In the midst of that we have Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Franks "significent other" was doing quite well being employed in that mess. Dodd had some great sweetheart deals.

The first mess wasn't enough, now Barney Frank is wanting to lower mortgage requirements again.

It was over a dozen times that Bush wanted restraint and something done as it was not sustainable. This gave Barney Frank and Chris Dodd a good laugh, they shot it down and it kept right on.

Obama's idea of mopping things up is to push bills thru we don't have a prayer of paying for and I might add,Without his promised transparent administration. Pending bills were to be posted on a website for five days. Anyone see that yet??

Have you looked today as to what the health care bill involves? If it has a name,it is taxed.

Obama provided jobs, read what a joke that is. He claims to have save over 150,000 jobs. He says what works for him.

Obama would have no idea of the jobs lost or saved.

The public sector is the only area where there is increase in employment. Look it up, any job that has supposedly been created are not sustainable. When the stimulus runs out so do the jobs.

This is a man that cannot even be transparent on his birth certificate, whatever it says.

He has not done one thing he promised.

Wasn't this the same man that wrung his hands over the warrantless wire tap? Once he got his backside in the chair of the oval office it didn't look like such a bad idea.

Military tribunals same story.

Once the federal government controls the economy and they are close, they have the means for control of everything else.

Just tell me what this man has done and accomplished

Let's not forget the most transparent administration ever.

All pending bills woul
