Amelia
Animal-Human Hybrids Spark Controversy Maryann Mott National Geographic News January 25, 2005 Scientists have begun blurring the line between human and animal by producing chimeras—a hybrid creature that's part human, part animal. Chinese scientists at the Shanghai Second Medical University in 2003 successfully fused human cells with rabbit eggs. The embryos were reportedly the first human-animal chimeras successfully created. They were allowed to develop for several days in a laboratory dish before the scientists destroyed the embryos to harvest their stem cells. In Minnesota last year researchers at the Mayo Clinic created pigs with human blood flowing through their bodies. And at Stanford University in California an experiment might be done later this year to create mice with human brains. Neil D
To harvest various organs, ie blood to replace that which was lost, brain/nervous system tissue to replace brain damaged or alzhimers patients, ..... Hmmmmmm....wasnt there something about mankind being destroyed because of an a-mal-ga-mation? Looks like I get to do some research this weekend.... cricket
Well, if we're all chimeras, then no wonder some of us are into this sort of thing. We're insane. We'd better stop. Anyone ever see the movie "Mars Attacks" with Pierce Brosnan and Sarah Jessica Parker? This reminds me of the little dog head on SJP. bevin
There are people who are true chimeras. Sort of the opposite of cojoined twins. Cojoined twins result when one fertilized egg subdivides, and then splits into two groups that develop into identical twins. You can get the other case where two separately fertilized eggs - which usually results in non-identical twins - clump together and then grow together as a single individual. Such a person literally has two different sets of DNA in different organs of their body. If, as has happened, they then give parent a child, they can literally fail a DNA match against their own child, because the child can from the other set of DNA than the match DNA sample comes from! CWhetmore
Maybe someone here can help...can you help? I need a favor !! My neighbor has a puppy he's giving away (FREE!). It's a Dachshund, it's house broken, and it's great with kids. He's giving it away because his wife says the dog 'stares' at her, and that gives her the 'Heebie Jeebies'. If you're interested, or know someone who is, let me know. Here's a picture of the dog. Nicodema
Ahhh, science ... that great endeavor of the brotherhood of man ... how it was to save us! LOL. Seriously though -- this is what you get when superstitious people won't permit stem cells to be harvested from aborted foetuses for fear it will drive UP the abortion rate (not so, it will only keep the poor foetus' little life from going to TOTAL waste, really). Scientists now have to find alternate means of cultivating these cells so that research into the curing of disease and congenital disorders can proceed. And with mental illness at an exploding rate, they likewise have to try to reproduce the conditions of the human brain as much as possible for testing purposes, though I think a mouse with human brain structure is a bit bizarre. LifeHiscost
Quote: ...and now the thread is going to the dogs. Well at least one doesn't have to be bored by nfdmtts on this one. Perhaps the reason nfdmtts are so prevalent is because the journey to the sanctuary is with the paramount reason to find entertainment of an acceptable spiritual nature. Make the reason for attending worship services, worship, and the dmnftts might just disappear. [:"red"] "And the vision of all this has become for you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, Read this, I pray you, he says, I cannot, for it is sealed. And when the book is given to him who is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray you, he says, I cannot read. And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips but remove their hearts and minds far from Me, and their fear and reverence for Me are a commandment of men that is learned by repetition [without any thought as to the meaning], Therefore, behold! I will again do marvelous things with this people, marvelous and astonishing things; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the understanding of their discerning men will vanish or be hidden." bevin
Her statement about it being done before the Flood is interesting... (1) It is hard to understand what she meant (2) since there is no evidence that the Flood she spoke of happened in the way she described and A LOT of evidence against it, she was apparently WAY of base before even getting started on the idea (3) there is no evidence the ancients had the necessary levels of science and technology, even if there was a flood. Either that or Noah and his family were some of the most complete ignoramuses in the society /Bevin
