I am getting more input every sabbath by those who are upset at the time we lost for sabbath school class discussion.

That's a pet peeve of mine as well. Has been for some time now. Today I visited a church I don't normally go to. They'd cancelled last week due to anticipating far worse snow than we really got, and so were going to "quickly" recap last week's lesson first. The end result? The whole time was spent on last week's and none on this week's. *sigh*.

Oh well. It was my first time back to church in about 2 or 3 months so I have no room to complain. I was still much blessed.

Sunday Football: just another great reason that appeals to a large number of people for being an SDA!!! LOL. The real sabbath won't interfere with your "big game"...

JimBob, today I attended an informational meeting by Elder R. Falkenberg. It was sooooooo good. He is challenging each church in our Conference to have two evangelistic meetings each year that are done by laymembers. He has done this in several conferences. It is a very good way to let the Holy Spirit use a person when they feel that God is calling them to this type of ministry. (you don't do your first series in your own church but in another church in the conference.) So JimBob what about you? You seem very knowledgeable about sermon presentation. We all need to put our money where our mouth is from time to time. Perhaps this is what the Holy Spirit is wanting you to do?

Hey, if they are even coming to church, that is reason enough to rejoice in my book. smile.gif

Hey someone switched cartoons here AFTER I posted my response -- the one I was responding to was knocking people with piercings so that's why I said "as long as they are even coming to church that's reason enough to rejoice"

ROFL yeah Nico, apparently that toon spot is on rotation. New toon every week.

The problem is that we have trickle down incompetency.

The lay speaker picks up the bad habits of the preacher so the lay outreach speaker usually can't present a decent message either.

I have been to 2 lay outreach set of meetings..

CRINGE..

Clueless leadership>>>>>>clueless laity.

I have heard some good lay speakers..I can count them on one hand.

At least Falkenberg has the right idea...has to start somewhere..

just need training by the right people...not some incompetent pastor who constantly does NFDMTTS.

Yes, some laymembers do give ineffective sermons, however, with Folkenberg's (Global Missions)method, DVDs and CDs come free with the sermons on them and graphics, etc. They can use these and can't go very wrong. For each 2-week series there is a meeting the Wednesday before they begin and they are assigned a mentor who will help coach a person. It is really a super way to learn to present a series and do a good job.

I just have to add: my daughter was at a evangelistic training seminar given by Teeny Finley last weekend. Although she is only 13, she was able to follow this same simple format and give an evangelistic series with graphics and all.

Yes, it can be simply done and effective for winning souls!
