Administrators Gail Posted October 16, 2009 Author Administrators Share Posted October 16, 2009 That's a good guess, because it is the correct answer! At first Joseph wanted to "put her away privily," but then an angel told him not to be afraid to take her as his wife. Good for you, Pam! Jacob: A. At Haran he dreamed of a stairway to heaven B. He worked seven years to marry Rachel C. Liz
Actually I believe it is letter "A". Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? TreeOfLife
All of the above might seem as the correct answer (Genesis 28:10-12; 29:18, 20; 34:1,3...) But, upon closer consideration and study, the answer should be B… Because 1) re "A.," Jacob was not "at" Haran, he was at Bethel (Genesis 28:19) which is in the direction of Haran as reckoned from Beersheba (v. 10) and quite far from Haran; and because 2) re “C.,” although Jacob had twelve sons he also had a daughter, Dinah (Genesis 34:1, 3.) That is, Jacob had at least 13 "children," not twelve... Of course, if you wish to be really technical about it, if you have thirteen children you certainly also do have twelve, or any number smaller than that, don't you? Liz
But while he worked 7 years for Rachel, he was deceived on his wedding day and got Leah instead. So while he was still able to marry Rachel the next week, he had to work an additional 7 years for her, making the grand total 14 years that he worked for Rachel. So with all of our reasonings, no answer is completely correct. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Administrators Gail Posted October 19, 2009 Author Administrators Share Posted October 19, 2009 Well here I am, finally! The answer is "B". He worked seven years IN ORDER to marry Rachel (IOW that was the agreement). We know he was tricked, but he did actually get Rachel after seven years. IMO this was kind of a confusing question and I accept Liz' reasoning. I think, though, that it was Tree of Life who got it first. And with that, let's try another one: Job: A. Satan was not allowed to destroy Job's children B. His wife told him to curse God and die C. God spoke to him in a still, small voice Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
