Guest
Check out this latest picture from Veterans Day 11/11/09 at the Ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery. I don't know whether the National Anthem is being played, or the Flag is going by, or WHAT, but EVERYBODY in the picture is either saluting or has his hand over the HEART. All except ONE. Guess who. You can’t make this stuff up!

Moderators lazarus Posted November 23, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 23, 2009 RICHARD THIS is getting just down right crazy to have a president acting like this dgrimm60 That's funny. To have a president giving oral sex in the oval office is crazy! I thought this kind of jingoism was reserved for the axis of evil. Dr. Shane
I have deleted a post with a picture of Nazis. That kind of thing does not contribute to the healthy exchange of ideas that we are striving for here. Feel free to make any political points desired but try to do so in a way that is not so terribly provocative. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators lazarus Posted November 23, 2009 Moderators Share Posted November 23, 2009 I think that's a rather extreme response. Healthy exchange of ideas???? Are you kidding? I don't remember the deletion of a picture Obama with a bone through his nose but I guess that's OK for you. You will allow foolish talk and the posting of photo shopped nonsense but you delete a picture of something that is a historical fact. Weird. Dr. Shane
The use of Hitler and Nazis is extreme and both extremes (liberal and conservative) seem to love calling the other side Nazis or Hitler. Using that label against others so much actually diminishes how abhorrent Nazism was. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members phkrause
Very good posts Lazarus. I also was looking for some photos of past presidents that on many occasions did not salute or place there hand above there heart. In and of itself it really doesn't mean a thing. Many point towards the president for not doing so but I've been to many a ballgame where more than half do not salute nor put there hands over there heart. Many just laugh and do all sorts of stuff during the National Antheum, or God bless America, but like to point fingers to those that they don't like anyway. pk Quote phkrause Obstinacy is a barrier to all improvement. - ChL

Using that label against others so much actually diminishes how abhorrent Nazism was. Who called who a Nazi? The picture was not to indicate that the other posters were Nazi's. I would like to credit myself with a higher motive that just to call someone a Nazi. It was startling image reminding folk of how societies can mindlessly follow demands of ferocious few. I think you should put the picture back. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Dr. Shane
The idea that a situation we have today in any way resembles what was going on in Nazi Germany shows the one making such a comparison fails to grasp Nazi Germany. Calling someone a Nazi is the most extreme and provocative statement that can be made in the arena of political thought. It is about like one kid calling another kid a mother-f***er on the playground. That type of rhetoric is not going to be tolerated here. Now if someone wants to use the word fascist, that would be acceptable but calling various political opponents Hitler or Nazis is not acceptable. That is way too provocative. Dr. Shane
Godwin's law Quote: Godwin's Law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies) is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." Godwin's Law is often cited in online discussions as a deterrent against the use of arguments in the widespread reductio ad Hitlerum form. The rule does not make any statement about whether any particular reference or comparison to Adolf Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that the likelihood of such a reference or comparison arising increases as the discussion progresses. It is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact. Although in one of its early forms Godwin's Law referred specifically to Usenet newsgroup discussions, the law is now applied to any threaded online discussion: electronic mailing lists, message boards, chat rooms, and more recently blog comment threads, wiki talk pages, and social networking sites.
