The 'dear satan' thread was deleted at Sid's request. Apologies to those who had posted thoughtfully on the issues, but I think this way works best.

I feel bad because there were some really good posts in the thread. Neil made some good points and I forgot who the other person was who talked about Gabriel, was very thoughtful. I requested that it be deleted as I don't think my comments were in the right spirit of this place, and I don't want to turn people off from here.

Sid I hope you dont feel bad, you expressed what you sincerely felt. Sometimes what seems a good idea when you make the post takes on a different aspect when it is up there for all the world to see. And what was written has given us all something to think about.

Sid I'm sorry if I made you feel you should delete your thread. Right now I just don't even want to talk about Satan, and for me that's a good thing. Next time I'll just stay off the thread. Again, I sincerely apologize.

Oh Nico it's ok! I didn't even know you posted. You must've posted right before it was deleted when I had contacted Bravus. I was mulling it over and thought it would be better to delete, and just pm'ed Bravus before I even read the new posts. No worries, and no apologize necessary. Thank-you though for considering my feelings. I appreciate it!

Nan...thank-you for your thoughts and for understanding.

Sid,

Honest expressions are not to be restrainted.

What I said was a reaction to your feelings. I just thought an new thought might be of better for your character rather than some sort of witholding of feelings...

Sometimes we have to let off steam. Some of us have had hand to hand battles with the angel of darkness himself and that encounter has left scars on us. And the expression sometimes has to come out. It would bother me more if you did not let out that expression of hatred rather than keeping it bottled up .

Now, having said that, you might get some people who will react to your expression of intense emotion. And they may not be as understanding. Just let us know when you are venting...it will truely save you and us a lot of frustration.

Would this be an acceptable rule for everyone?

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

I would rather someone let it out, than keep it in and explode. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon_smile_sick.gif" alt="" />

I don't believe we should be thanking or giving credit to Satan for anything. In all things we should thank God and give Him glory. Including battles with Satan and how they make us feel. I think it's OK to share some of those feelings but remember there are warnings in Scripture about speaking evil of dignitaries (fallen angels) or giving them a scathing rebuke -- that is not our place -- and we would do well to heed those warnings NOT because of superstitious reasons but because not doing so gives those very beings an advantage in the battle over us.

Trust me, you have no idea how vain the devil is, or how much he relishes the sound of his own name. All things of which he accuses the throne of God -- wanting to be served, wanting glory, craving/needing worship for validation, etc. -- are earmarks of his own ways. He vacillates between refusing to admit it and admitting it with wanton abandonment and pride as if it were something exotic to be chased and lusted after. The devil is extremely perverse like that. He is, to put it plainly, sick in some very strange and tragic ways. He ain't right in the head, for starters ...

None of the above in italics is pure truth. It is part truth, part relative perception as illustration of something. It is an example of the way the devil attempts to get each of us to make an image to him. This image is tailor-driven to specificity to elicit our sympathies because it plays upon our own weaknesses and conceptualizations. From some he seeks to elicit pity, from others hatred, but each is equally a snare, I think, or can be.

The best way to describe the devil (to avoid said snares) would be to think of it as a virus, that will one day be deleted when all the files are quarantined and cleansed from it. Then the entire system will be rebooted clean. wink.gif

That's my half-baked take on it, anyway ...

Amelia, ever seen the computer-animated series "Reboot"? There's a whole "apocalypse" sequence at the end which really illustrates this if you follow the characters and such it is really neat! I was so surprised to see it because I'd come up with the idea myself (of the virus, etc.) in conjunction with a friend some years ago to describe sin/evil -- using both the biological virus as well as the informational/memetic and computer ones to symbolize it -- so it amazed me years later to see the series "Reboot" and the symbolism so graphically portrayed there, though that could be just what *I* brought to it so that's what *I* got out of it ...

anyway ... glad you like the idea!
