Sabbath-breaking 'caused tsunami'

Christian minister calls disaster 'divine visitation' on Lord's Day

A Christian minister claims the tsunami of Sunday, Dec. 26, killing at least 160,000 people, was direct result of "pleasure seekers" breaking God's Sabbath.

In the February issue of his church magazine, Rev. John MacLeod of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland writes: "Possibly ... no event since Noah's flood has caused such loss of life by drowning as the recent Asian tsunami. That so many of our fellow creatures should have perished in so short a time, and in so awful a fashion, was a divine visitation that ought to make men tremble the world over."

He continued: "Some of the places most affected by the tsunami attracted pleasure-seekers from all over the world. It has to be noted that the wave arrived on the Lord's day, the day God set apart to be observed the world over as a holy resting from all employments and recreations that are lawful on other days."

What is it, apparently with the Presbyterians? A few years ago when the Port Arthur massacre happened (lone gunman Martin Bryant went into a tourist attraction at Port Arthur, Tasmania, and killed dozens of people with a semi-automatic weapon) the same thing happened. I recall a Presbyterian church leader in Tasmania publishing a statement to the effect that these people had been killed because they were visiting a tourist attraction on the Lord's Day (Sunday) instead of being in church.

What would these people make of the Christian church in Sri Lanka which was washed away by the tsunami, killing everybody inside, during the Sunday worship service?

Oh, I know...they probablly belonged to the wrong denomination...

Aldona, the muslims would most likely say that because a temple was left standing while everything around it was washed away. It is now being touted as a miracle of Allah, that islam is the right.

Did everyone catch this at the bottom of the article?

Quote:

Some have even gone so far as to claim God signed his name as Allah in the waves off the Sri Lankan town of Kalutara, as captured by satellite photography.

Waves off Kalutara, Sri Lanka, said to resemble name of Allah in Arabic, inset (photo: DigitalGlobe)

"This clearly spells out the name 'Allah' in Arabic," Mohamed Faizeen, manager of the Centre for Islamic Studies in Colombo, told Agence France-Presse. "He sent it as punishment. This comes from ignoring His laws."

"Allah first sends small punishments – like loss of business. If we ignore the warning, He sends bigger ones – loss of life. If we still ignore the warnings, the big punishments, like earthquakes and tsunamis will come."

God never set apart Sunday as a day of rest as far as I am aware. So their reasoning is bogus. It's a great opportunity to witness though. Perhaps we should flood that media outlet with letters about the true sabbath? NOT to uphold notions of a punitive angry God but to uphold the fact that only one sabbath was established (biblically speaking) and it has never (biblically speaking) been changed ...

We know that,Nico, but THEY don't. And they would be a slave to that mentality....

I like your idea about flooding the air waves with the Character of God and which day is the true Sabbath....Problem is...It would cause a heavy toll upon the locals....

A few years ago I had a team from an SDA forum post sabbath topics on a Christian forum.

I called it Operation Gideon.

We attacked on OCT 31...(overcoming evil with good) for a full 24 hours.

We completely filled up the first page which holds 50 threads..on their MSN forum site..with sabbath threads.

I remember one of the SDA posters ,from Australia, mentioning that he hadn't had that much fun since high school.

One of the managers of the Christian site was calling for a sabbath non-proliforation treaty mittelgr124.gifmittelgr124.gif

LHC--we had a sermon on that exact verse about 3 weeks ago. Very powerful sermon--basically, that we should view the tsunami as a warning to US to repent, not as a reason to point fingers as some (not on this forum) are doing.

Thank you, Nico and Michelle, for your affirmation of the Word. One of the dangers of the long established Christian is the tendency to believe , as the rich youg ruler, that we cannot find anything to repent of in our lives. God even has that contingency covered for those who wish to ask for the promise to be fulfilled in their lives.

Nico, I don't think you know how many prayers are ascending on your behalf, as well as those recognizing the steps evident in many of your posts, to a growth spiritually, positively revealing the tender care of the Lamb of God over your soul.

Your comments in the preceding prose, could be written for a multitude of people of whom we are for the most part, ignorant. You are the one God has chosen to reveal the quandary of the many who have yet to learn the necessity of listening for that One still small voice, among the many religious comments of believer and unbeliever, not to mention the irreligious.

While I am writing to you, I am listening to Glen Campbell's

rendition of "No More Night". I encourage you to get it if it is not already in your possession. I recall the tears flowing the first time I ever heard it, and it very seldom fails to elicit a measure of that same voice of the Spirit, whenever I come back to it, usually when He and I are alone together.

Oh they were totally offended. They thought we were a bunch of disgusting, repulsive, fanatic, psycho, spamming trolls.

They all, unanimously, vowed to never join the SDA church and to break all communication ties with any Adventists.

We were all banned for life.

They labelled us a bunch of legalistic cultists from HADES.

Now, does that make anyone feel better??

Re: "Now, does that make anyone feel better??"

Feel better, No.

But, it does tell me that there are moments when JimBob7 speaks the truth.

Let us all work together to turn people away from the SDA Chruch (after all it is human and faulty), and to demonstrate to the world a perverted view of the Christian life and how Christians are to relate to others.

Thank you JimBob7 for saying it so well.

I have a brilliant idea. In every city where there is a SDA church of more than 100 members, let 100 of them get together and all attend one of thier local chruches this Sunday. They could attend all of the Sunday School classes, and present thier views on the subjects. They could all participate in public comment on the pastor's sermon that day. And, in the interest of having a name that presented a message, they could tell all who asked that they came from the Chruch of the Enlightened Few, and they had been commissioned to bear public witness in the local churches that belonged to the Church of the Ignorant and Uninformed.

Just think of the witness we would give of our gracious Lord if we would all do that each Sunday for a year!

I think there are enough of a certain other type of blatant fanatic out there in the mainstreams of Christendom turning people off from God on a daily 24/7 basis that we need not add our own peculiar unique ways of doing so to that mix. I think we need to be that voice in the wilderness that defends the King against the cheerful liars who claim to own His Name as theirs and speak for Him, in the ears of the hurting and downcast, outcast, judged, forsaken and hated, doomed and damned, so that they will know they have in Jesus someone who is truly a Friend of Sinners.

If we don't, then we are simply not doing our jobs, and we are revealing that in that final day we will not be among the persecuted. We will instead be doing the persecuting, neck to neck in line with the minions of the "Beast".

That is my humble view of things.

The previous post of mine was to see if I have any prospects for my bridge selling business.

No one was banned..maybe some were offended a little...remember the date??

It was Halloween ...our religious trick or treat visit to the site. BTW..most still visit the site.

Do yiou think that people in the Sunday crowd , who are actively posting on religious internet forums are so naive regarding SDA's??

PERSPECTIVE ..PERSPECTIVE..PERSPECTIVE

The part where one poster asked for a sabbath non .

proliferation treaty was accurate...and we knew it was a humorous post...

I got a kick out of it.

Some sites that I visit have posters that seem to be very touchy and thin skinned and then there are some where they are not so uptight..

IT IS NOT RIGHT FOR THE UPRIGHT TO BE UPTIGHT.

Yeah, there are enough "christian" variants that do that job

rather well. Everything from scams to unthinkable and crazy dogma. And even that doesn't seems to cover the ranges of people 'who think they are doing God a service".

Hmmmmmmm. "defends the King"....Your statement brings to mind sentrys or guarding soldiers....I don't recall too many passages where we are to be soldiers for Christ...Ambassadors, yes, Witness, yes...soldiers....um..no.

I recall a piture where there were sentrys guarding the most temple, rather the most holy place...And I thought to myself.."Why would the most powerful being need to be guarded by humans?" And then it occured to me that those guards were NOT there to protect, but rather to keep out those foolish humans who insisted on coming in to see the shekina [sp] glory. Remember, even Moses wasn't allowed to see God, but only His back...becasue if he did, he would die...

Maybe, instead of us 'defending God' ...maybe we should let God defend Himself...And we be just witnesses, and Ambassadors....

Quote:

Ay, in the presence of those who need to hear, we should whisper our witness of the King of the universe in the ears of those who need to hear...And not 'cast our pearls before the swine'....to be stepped under foot. And it maybe that we need to present our King before the courts of kings....Whereever should not stop us from spreading the good news that the King of the Universe takes a personal interest in us..

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

Neil, go back and read more carefully please. I said "voice in the wilderness" to defend the King. I am not talking about swords, spears, or guards, but a voice in the wilderness bearing witness to truth, upholding the light of God's character, in the face of all these falsehoods. It is in this manner that we "defend" our King. smile.gif

Is this a musical recording? I've never heard it before. Could you post the lyrics to me in a PM maybe?

Quote:

[:"red"] "And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake;

Is the voice water? I see the other elements represented there but not water.

A wind that breaks the rocks from the mountains is imposing indeed: howling, tempestuous, thunderous. An earthquake is shattering. Fire is raging, blistering, searing. You know what, LHC? I've never really SEEN this verse before in terms of my own experience. All of a sudden I do. I see the voices that speak to me and pass themselves off as God, the ones that terrify, torture, and destroy me. The one I call the "monster" is in there, the "pseudoGod" -- the thunderous hateful blast, the jarring loose of all moorings, and the blistering, withering heat ... and none of those are He. None of those are He. NONE OF THOSE . ARE . HE. He is not in ANY OF THEM!!! Hallelujah, it is a Key! You've given me a KEY!!! Do you realize how powerful this key will be??? Do you realize how much it will do to lock out the enemy?!?!

I guess it's no secret that I relate to this story deeply ... in many ways I cling to Ellen White's elaborations upon it, especially the idea that no matter what comes OUT of me, Jesus knows what is in my heart and what I really want to be saying or doing, and He isn't phased by what is outwardly visible or audible. He knows what I mean even when I can't begin to make any kind of sense or am cut off from all human communication, or when I'm so far into my own world I cannot be present in reality at all. What others cannot realize and see, what makes them despise me or flee from me, excites only His compassion toward me. He is coming and He will deliver me, completely and irrevocably, if not in this life, then in the next. Of that I am certain.
