Should we care? Can we do anything? Talking about the 60,000+ girls 9 years old + that are children that are tricked into being prostitutes every year from Nepal (and more from so many other places?) Can we do anything? or should our evening be for ourselves and enjoy watching TV etc?

More info

can anyone really make a difference?

By writing lots of letters, we have been able to get pastors sprung from jail. Perhaps by writing lots of letters we could get governments to actually do something about glaring issues like this.

Individually we can sponsor children through Adventist Child India.

Building female literacy programs also will help. Illiteracy among women in that part of the world further enables exploitation.

I just finished reading Greg Mortenson's second book, Stones into Schools which picks up where his first book, Three Cups of Tea left off.

His NGO is having great success in building schools for girls in remote Pakistan and Afghanistan. Nepal may be another area ripe for this sort of work.

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Interesting Question Stan, and I think Karl has hit on something. The question than comes up, who and what organization gets something like this going?

Prostitution is common in China where the communist party has ruled for over 60 years, even though when they first came to power, they made it against the law and put prostitutes in re-education camps. It's common wherever there's state socialism. It exists essentially because of the demand and because it's very profitable.

Yesterday I saw on the news where a man was asking people to take his baby in exchange for beer money. Someone called the police and they took his baby. The mother was in the store and may not have even known what he was trying to do.

One solution to the abuse of young children in this connection is to make the punishment of those who do it so severe and public that almost no one would do it. But as long as judges let child molestors and pimps off easily, there's not much reason for pimps and "johns" to stop using children that way.

That will only happen if the citizens demand a change by putting pressure on their legislators.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Social Justice has nothing to do with re distribution of wealth, it is not part of a communist plot. Social justice is more needed in communist countries.

Either you are for social justice or you are against social justice.

If you support people taking advantage of the aged, children, the wounded, weak and weary, you are not for social justice.

A Baptist preacher, Tommy Douglas, the grandfather of Keifer Sutherland, watched too many little children die as their parents did not have any money for medical care. He started health care. Why one country has deemed it universal health care, when it only affect their country is beyond me. It is like having a world series that only one country can play in....

Was recently going over an estate of an aged man, the real estate folks tried to buy his home/land of him for about 1/2 the price a real estate agent is suggesting we sell it for.

BUT who cares about these old folks with no children or family to help him out ??? If anyone should stand up for these victims, it should be Christians.

Either you are for social justice or you are against social justice.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

Hello, people. Children are being enslaved. Can we stay on topic or shall this thread also reduce to political debate?

Because, you know, political debate is so effective at helping children.

Why don't you tell us all what YOU are doing to un-enslave these children, Sivart. It is personal efforts to correct problems that I am most impressed with.

What, specifically, is your plan?

What did Jesus do about the slavery that existed during His sojourn on earth?

Yes, we can. I suggest all of the members send you some money in addition to their membership fees, and you make sure all the money gets in the right hands to help some of those girls in whatever way would do the most good for them.

Can this be done?

Some other suggestions:

1) Pray every day, and encourage your Christians friends, as well as your church, to pray about this problem. God can do things when we pray that He won't otherwise do. It gives God permission to work in ways He can't do without prayer.

2) Send messages to repesentatives in Congress and the Senate about how strongly you feel about problem. Tell them you won't vote for them, and that you'll encourage your friends and neighbors not to vote for them if they don't do something tangible about it.

3)Contact organizations which try to help those girls and ask them how you can be of any assistence to them.

4) If you live near big cities, such as LA and New York and Chicago, and especially San Francisco, be on the look-out for young prostitutes, and try to find out who their pimps are. Find out where the pimps live and where the girls are taking their "johns," and when you find out, call the police. This may sound bad, but an arrest is often actually one of the best things that can happen to them if it helps get them off the street.

5) When you find a young prostitute, talk to her about Jesus and give her Christian literature. Make friends with her, and after a while invite her to eat a meal at a restaurant with you. Show her that you are a real friend and not trying to exploit her. They will find this hard to believe at first since they are always being exploited, but after a while she will trust you if you don't stop. (Make sure the cops or the pimps don't think you're trying to pick her up because the cops will arrest you and your name could appear in the paper, and the pimp could get very angry, etc. No joke.)

6) Don't forget that many teen-age boys are also working the city streets as prostitutes, and they need the same help as the girls do.

How quickly people stop reading when given the opportunity to argue about petty points of views and a chance to spew out out their political agenda. It is a good way of avoiding your question...samo-samo!! Hijacked again!!!

You can't find anything to like in any of them-- not a one? Look again. :)
