Administrators Gail Posted March 2, 2005 Administrators Share Posted March 2, 2005 Doesn't quite look like you, Tony... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Or me, for that matter. I've come up with some great costumes over the years but that's not one of them Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. Anthony!
Clue: When he put on his first performance, that is exactly what people asked: "What was that"? Clue: Yes, Bravus *think* early '80s. Unsolicited clue: New York City
Anthony!
Here is an audio clue. This is his version of a famous song from 'The Wizard of Oz' (sorry Bravus, not about THAT Oz). *All* the voices in this song are by this man. Amelia
Rocky Horror does Wizard of Oz. Anthony!
Well, well, well... very impressive, Christine. He made quite an impression on me in December of 1979. My brother and I saw him on television and we thought he was *really out there* but cool. He had an incredible vocal range as a baritone singing counter tenor and 'falsetto' soprano. Let's see if anyone else knows...
Nicodema
Did he come from Oingo Boingo? LOL That was my first reaction too: WHAT is that. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot

Anthony!
Ohhhh... silly me, maybe Christine benefitted from my giveaway oversight... if you open the audio clue song, your media file player will show the embedded info regarding the artist... I guess I made it too easy for people that way...

Anthony!
Yes Nico, Diamanda has a lot to say politically and for humanitarian reasons, and surprisingly, my guy and her had a few things in common. However, I'll take my guy's voice before Diamanda's any day. Blessings to you, Nico!

Anthony!
Quote: Rocky Horror does Wizard of Oz. Yes, Amelia he has been described as just that... that he could have been the combination of several characters in that cult movie hit. As brilliant as Tim Curry was/is, he can't touch my guy. Anthony!
Bravus: Quote: I'm thinking of a very early Peter Gabriel, but he doesn't sounds right... Peter Gabriel is probably a notch above my guy because he outlived my guy and has matured. Some critics think that my guy could have had a profound effect on the music of the '80s, close to Gabriel and David Bowie, had he lived and matured also. In the '70s and early '80s Peter Gabriel was known to be quite arrogant, but matured and found his place. My guy may or may not have done the same in the '80s had he lived. Of course, I cannot help but wonder what effect AIDS had on my guy's thinking, as the virus pools on the brain and causes anosognosia (not knowing that you don't know or remember). My guy was described as being impatient for fame, and thought he should have been a star sooner than he was. By 1981-1982, he was immensely popular in France, Germany and Japan. My guy died in 1983, one of the first if not the first high profile gay artists/musicians to die from AIDS.
cricket
Actually, Mr. Lewis, I did a Google search on alfalfa hair, 80s weirdos, wizard of oz ding dong punk...found "your guy"! It wasn't easy, but then again, Amelia is not the only Golden Retriever around here. That was fun, by the way. Do something else. I'm game. Amelia
I found him but also hadn't heard of him. But then the 80's was not my decade.
