Overaged
Well; I'm not really "with Shane on this at all. I think his answer leaves a lot to be desired/debated. When I read my Bible; I read things like: Quote: Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Apparently, there are Foundations, Landmarks, and Pillars that endure through all time. "Stand ye in the ways..." That is in the plural. So, perhaps, there isn't just "one?" Notice, too though that "the good way" is in the singular. So does this then mean there are a group of beliefs, which fall under the one "way?" And, would this "way" be "Belief In The Bible?" Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
SivartM
I thought the way was Jesus... Moderators Gerr Posted August 30, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 30, 2010 I have to say ... I'm with Shane on this one. Earlier in our hx, many objected to having a statement of fundamental beliefs because they viewed it like a creed, that once written down, they would be viewed as written in concrete and would discourage further discussion and search for truth. They also thought that stating a fundamental belief in the Bible as God's word was sufficient. The problem with this is that no one could/would be able to distinguish us from the other Christian bodies that also claim to believe in the Bible as God's word. Woody
I have to say ... I'm still with Shane on this one. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Overaged
I thought the way was Jesus... Well; would Jeremiah have been talking about this, then? Col 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Col 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Was Jesus around when Jeremiah said this? Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." Nic Samojluk
I would be interested to see what others think are the most essential Christian doctrines that Adventists should believe in. When I was baptized, there were only 13 fundamental beliefs; later there were 21, then 27, and now 28. I have provided a poll in this topic to generate discussion, and hopefully make one or two initial points about this question. I didn't vote because I am not clear on the question. Do you mean essential doctrines for joining the church or for salvation? Let's not forget that the Devil does believe and trembles, but he disregards each one of those beliefs.
