Amelia
Thousands face job loss when part of stimulus expires Obama administration, Democrats face stiff GOP resistance in extending program By Michael Cooper The New York Times 9/25/2010 Tens of thousands of people will lose their jobs within weeks unless Congress extends one of the more effective job-creating programs in the $787 billion stimulus act: a $1 billion New Deal-style program that directly paid the salaries of unemployed people so they could get jobs in government, at nonprofit organizations and at many small businesses. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39360452/ns/politics-the_new_york_times/ Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Dr. Shane
This really exposes one of the big problems with the stimulus bill. The jobs it did create were only funded temporarily. The theory was that the economy would have recovered by the time the temporary funding expired. Government spending is fueled by the private sector. We cannot spend our way out of an economic downturn. Government spending, at best, can only grant temporary relief. The private sector needs to pull us out of this. The private sector has not been growing much primarily because banks have not been loaning money to small business. Additionally, many businesses are scared of what is to come. The see tax increases, Obama-care and new environmental penalties as as an unknown landscape and are holding off hiring new employees to see how things are going to play out.
