Administrators Gail Posted December 15, 2010 Administrators Share Posted December 15, 2010 While I can agree with some of this, at points the video seems to get carried away. I would think that many homeschoolers would recognize the different reading techniques listed and know that some kids benefit from each of them. The problem is that not all students will read by sounding out words while others do well by just knowing what a word should look like after having seen it a time or two. The first time I really began to think about how society is being "dumbed down" is when we as a family read through the Little House on the Prairie. Laura got her teacher's certificate when she was 15, I believe. As we learned how the students of the day diagrammed sentences, had spelling bees and tackled basic maths and shortcuts to help the mental (not calculator) process along, PLUS all the dates associated with the history they covered. I thank the Lord for alternative educational options! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
