Seventh day Adventist tithe is used for evangelism

The tithe is used for the support of the minstry and evangelism, but business and health organizations affilated with the church do not appear to be funded with tithe funds.

Moreover, the corporations were separated some years ago to reduce liablity.

While individuals may at times have said other things, here is the official church position regarding the elective termination of pregnancy, which I believe it would behoove Adventist facilities to consider with care in making their own policies.

Note it does not endorse elective procedures.

A correction and some clarification. This is not the "official church position" in the sense that it carries any official action one way or the other.Nor is it "official" in the sense of having been voted as acceptable by the church in session.Nor is it stated as a "position".Nor is it to be confused with "church policy".They are recommended "guidelines" which may or may not be followed by any church medical institutions.Note they do not endorse elective abortions. Note they do not forbid elective abortions. If the guidelines are ignored, they are ignored, there is no need for behoovement.

"These guidelines were approved and voted by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Executive Committee at the Annual Council session in Silver Spring, Maryland, October 12, 1992."

We no longer have our hospitals run by the church. Since they are not church organizations, they stand in a different relationship to the church than if they were, and this carries with it many effects, one of which is that the church cannot now mandate a certain course of action to be carried out in our health facilities. It also means that the tithe funds are not used for the functioning of the health centers. The choice to do these procedures is a real issue, however, they are not supported by the tithe, nor are the facilities that do them. It is part of a broader picture. We saw our medical centers come under less influence by the church 100 years ago, but then they were brought back except a few. Perhaps part of the solution to this issue would be to have the church have a closer relationship to the medical work, but whether this is doable at this point is an open question.
