Stan
Maybe I am just watching too much international news these days. The Catholic dominated Philippines, is trying desperately to stop the readily availability of 'unnatural' means of birth control. One priest said that it would lead to immoral sexual activity similar to what there is in the West. (I was reminded of a joke, "what do you call people who use rhythm for a birth control method? Answer PARENTS.) Several families have up to a dozen children there. THOUGHTS? Moderators Nan Posted March 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 20, 2011 I am reminded of the plight of the poor man with a large family, who had tried the rhythm method...but found it extremely difficult to find a musical band in the middle of the night. Moderators Nan Posted March 20, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 20, 2011 But on the serious side, certainly banning birth control services to the poor is a sure way to keep them so.
Stan
I have sometimes wondered if there is a connection between that and the increase number of divorces since "the pill" and other means became readily available.. Still, would not recommend going back. I personally believe that families should the option of a choice. Dr. Shane
Before the rhythm method was coitus interruptus, of course Catholics don't approve of that either. Combine they are very effective, especially if the woman takes her temperature each day and identifies when she is fertile. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... aldona
Every single woman I know who relied on the "withdrawal" method (coitus interruptus) has had at least one unplanned pregnancy, sometimes more. Some have had abortions as a result, some have kept their babies. They have all been married women. Providing more reliable birth control is not just a health issue, but I see it as a moral issue as well (prevention of abortions). Moderators Nan Posted March 22, 2011 Moderators Share Posted March 22, 2011 I actually have had a few patients who have used coitus interruptus for up to 20 years with success. The woman has to really trust her partner. My usual comment on the rhythm method is that I think it of more use when trying to conceive - but this is the choice of a lot of women, The bottom line is, that the women I am talking about have made the choice to use these 'natural' methods of contraception. In the Philippine situation, the women have been denied choice.
